How To Study Anatomy HELP!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I have just started Spring semester as of going on 3 wks ago. One of my classes is anatomy lecture and lab. Ri ght now we are working on the bones of the skull as well as the meninges and various sinuses of the brain. I really need some advice of HOW to study this. I use a coloring book, which is ok I guess, but so much of what we are studying now doesnt really correlate with the stuff in that book, some parts are there or there are also parts that i dont need to know, etc etc. Part of the problem is I got stuck with a crappy teacher, that is just known at the school. Classes fill up so fast and they only offered like 3 anatomy classes this semester, this one fit my schedule and was not full. im a freshman so i get last pick :sniff: This teacher goes SO fast and she is trying to show us these things on an overhead projector, many of these structures are so small they are hard to see anyhow. Then to top it off if anyone slows her down or asks too many question or if she is asked to repeat something she becomes quite obviously annoyed, and acts very nasty or says she won;t repeat it again. so i am trying to find an effective way to study.any ideas? especially for that specific area...the skull, meninges, brain and veinous sinuses. any help would be much appreciated

Hi

for AP I get AP for dummies work for me better understanding. english language not in science language which is harder to understand because is new to you. onlines resources are good too. good luck

What helped me most in anatomy and physio is to stay on top of your notes and to be organized. Go over lecture notes everyday after class and study the diagrams / pictures in the book everyday. Also, do not cram--if you have to pull an all nighter, do it 2 days before exams. I brought a camera to lab every day and took pictures of all of the models, uploaded the photos onto my netbook during lab and photoshopped the name of everything on the model with my T.A. going over the model right then and there. I also recorded videos of demonstrations in lab.

There are also a lot of mnemonics that can help you remember associations. For example, Gluteus Minimus and Gluteus medius are part of your BUTT so they aBduct.

The best method for me at was making my own makeshift tests out of various books i got from the library. You can just find the pages on the different topics you need to know (brain, skulls, etc.) then find each specific part in the book you need to know and cover the names of them using paper and tape. Then just go book by book, page by page and test yourself. You will be a pro in no time, just make sure to write down the answers to the covered sections (so you don't have to take the tape off every time you check your answers). Once you think you have it down, you can then have a list of each item you need to know and try to visualize it in your mind. That way when it comes to test day you will be able to visualize where things are as you are naming them. Hope this helped!!! GOOD LUCK

my best study tip for a course like that,,, record yourself reading your notes onto a cassette or whatever you have, and listen to it in your car as you drive to school or work,, its makes a great last minute review for test on way to school...you can even lay down at night and listen to it,,and it lets zip right thru your notes if you play it and read along,, i got an a in that class...
