(Hi, I'm new) NET advice.

Hi, my name is Abby. I've been a psychology major at a University in Maine for 2 years part time. I've decided to switch colleges so I can study nursing. I'm the daughter of a Registered Nurse, who at the time didn't have to take the NET. I'm nervous about what it's like. I know it's computerized but I'm concerned about the math part basically. I've never been very good at Algebra, I've always learned it for whatever class I needed and moved on and basically forgot it. Last class I took was Elementary Algebra at the last University [in Spring 04] and I got a B-. I guess I'm just wondering if the math part is very difficult or maybe even some advice about study guides I should use.

The nursing program doesn't start until the fall, so I'm entering as a liberal studies major and taking the pre-reqs for a semester and then applying to the nursing program, so it will be quite a few months before I take the NET but you can only take it twice here...should I be concerned?

The NET's math is not the hardest part of it all. If you purchase the NET Study Guide you will be able to review what will be on the test. It is just basic math, with a little bit of basic Algebra. There are also a few ratio questions.

The reading part is probably the part that most people do not pass the first time.

It involves main idea, purpose of the writings, etc. The NET Study Guide also covers these things.

The study guide is available through EriWorld.com, but you can shop around. I actually bought mine on Ebay! :)

I bought it a year in advance, just because I thought I would be starting my pre-reqs a little earlier than I was able to. (due to waiting for approval w/my scholarship) I did the two practice tests then, and I took them both a second time about a month before I took the exam.

Then, the day before the exam, I took them both a third time.

I passed the NET with scores WAY above the scores required by my college's nursing program.

Overall, the NET is not really hard. For most, it is more anxiety before the test that is tough to get over.

It does not have a science portion, as some tests have, and most do not require a written portion. You will need to check with your school(s) to see if you will have to do that.

I concur with Fun2care. I took the NET and I had expected much worse and ended up doing fine on both portions. I do recommend the study guide (I borrowed mine from a classmate - it is simply titled "The NET Study Guide" by Educational Resources, Inc.).

The best part about going through the study guide was building my confidance - I was very anxious about the reading part (I'm a very strong math/science person and not so good with reading comp - as evidenced by my totally lopsided SAT and GRE scores hehe). I did all the reading practice tests and barely glanced over the math. Don't stress, it's not a bad test at all in my humble opinion.

Okay, thank you both so much. Now I'm a little less stressed about the whole thing.

English is usually my strength. I got an A in English Comp and Honors Intro to Lit, so I'm assuming that I'll be okay.

I'm going to buy a study guide probably this week along with an algebra study guide just to help me out a little.

I was so excited to find this forum because I don't know any other people looking into nursing right now that could help me with these questions. So yay!:)
