Help me! Not teas material.

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Reviewing many pages about the teas exam I am concerned that I will not be able to be prepared for the test. I am 53 years old and don't remember most of what I'm reading about the contents of the teas test. I feel as though I need to go back to middle school! Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Have you done any prereqs yet? That is how I remembered my stuff. I am going for my ADN so you do the prereqs and coreqs (if you want) first. So I had already done A&P I and II, English Comp, and an Algebra class before taking the Teas. I waited right before I applied to take it so I would have as much knowledge as possible.

Heathermaizey I have not studied anything yet. I just spoke with the school today and was informed that I will have to take the teas exam. I have been looking on the internet for any/all free help. I am not even sure where to start. They have a prep class but that is over a month away so I would like to get started today! Thank you for sharing! -Ann

I had bought the ATI book and McGraw Hill book that had like 5 practice tests on it. You could get those and look at them. They do have some explanations in there. It's just that if you already don't understand the material it's kinda hard to get it. What the Teas measures is how much remedial stuff you will need. It wants to know if you are ready for the upper level thinking nursing school requires so much of the knowledge you already need to have. Are you applying for a RN or LPN program and what kind of school are you applying to? Most schools have you do the prereqs and then take your Teas. I know my friend took hers first at a for profit school. She scored in the 40s and still got in. Just make sure you have thoroughly researched your school so you are not flushing money down the toilet.

Hop over to Khan Academy and look for topics you want to brush up on. Just a fantastic site for that sort of thing, at least if you know what topics you need.

I agree, the TEAS study manual was an invaluable resource to me. Also, Khan Academy!

Thank you so much. I have been working on the Khan site and have put holds on the books from the library. There are 3 schools I am looking into. One is a community college, second is a BOCES program and the other is Mildred-Elley. It's very competitive here. Thanks for the advice.

Are you able to wait until after you've taken your prerequisite courses? They help a lot in some areas of the exam.

The ATI TEAS V guide was what worked well for me. I read it cover to cover and tabbed the pages I needed to review. This way, I was exposed to everything, but I could go back and focus the rest of my time only on the things I really needed to review.

So what I am gathering from looking at 2 of these schools is that they are private career schools? And you want to be a LPN? Please choose your school wisely. I am not seeing on either website where they are accredited with any kind of nursing depts. They are probably high dollar and no credits would ever transfer. I would stick with a community college where A- credits will transfer, B-cost efficient, C-you will actually be able to sit for the NCLEX-PN when you are done. Just check around and see what they have to offer and what works for you.
