Help??? Any Advice??

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Im new to this site...so please bare with me.

I am currently a pre-nursing student. I am trying my very best to get into nursing school. Can someone please tell me how they decide your app based on quality points?? How quality points work? and cum gpa? Also is it common for people to apply for nursing school while still completing some prereqs? My school lets you apply and finish your prereqs. I know it is possible i want to know has anyone does this? Does it work against you? Also has anyone attended UAFS nursing school? Any info or advice please and thank you!

At my school (Jeff State CC) you can apply to the full time program at anytime. For the part time program you must have already completed math 100, eng II, and A&P I. Entry to both programs is based on two factors: your GPA (must have a 2.5 or better) and your accumulated points from math 100, your biology classes, and your score from the teasv exam. I'm applying to the part time program in May and I've been told by a nursing advisor that I need 185 points. Keep in mind though that every school is different and JSCC nursing program is very hard to get into. Have you already taken the teasv, math 100, and your bios?

Good day, klhouse:

If you school is using a quality system, they should have a chart for how the points work. Have you checked with your adviser?

Thank you.

At my school, you can apply while you are in your final semester of pre-reqs. This will make you a "category 2" applicant. The "category 1" applicants are the ones that are finished with their pre-reqs at the time the application window closes. The category 1 applicants will be looked at first and will start the competitive process. The category 2 applicants will not start the competitive process unless all of the category 1 applicants have gotten a spot in the program. I was told by my advisor that this never happens. There are always way more category 1 applicants than spots in the program.

The competitive process consists of your score of the TEAS test and grades in certain classes. Points are awarded 1 point per grade point per credit. A C is worth 1 point per credit hour, a B 2 points, and an A 3 points. So if you have a 3 credit class, such as English, and get an A in it, you would get 9 points for that class. My program also rewards points for volunteer hours and extra points for an A in A&P.

This is how it is done at my school but others may be a bit different. Your best bet is to attend an information session on the application process or talk to your advisor.
