GED/GEN EDS/ADN

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hey everyone ; i found this website researching things about the career I am pursuing. (ADN Registered Nurse) I guess I'm just looking for success stories/guidance as to how you got through nursing school ; if you did it whole being a mom etc etc.

- I recently spoke to the university near me that offers an ADN Nursing Program and because I have my GED they told me I needed to obtain my Gen EDS at a community college first , just so they could see that I can maintain a significant GPA and view my work ethic instead of just viewing my scores on my GED exam. I was just wondering if anyone has gone through the same thing and worked and also had a child ? (My son will be 3 in october) I'm only 19 but I start my Gen EDS on the 29th so , I'm nervous about being back in school as well as wondering if there are MORE classes I should be taking along with my GEN EDS. Thank you so much ♡

Honestly, getting your general education credits and prereqs done at a community college is the way to go, in my opinion. At my community college, the tuition is roughly $100 per credit, while at nearby Washington State University, it's over $300 per credit. Plus, you're more likely to have smaller class sizes.

I also have my GED and at school, I was just awarded a $500 renewable scholarship that was specifically for nursing students with a GED instead of a high school diploma. I used to think my GED would be the end of my educational career, but I've come to find out that it really doesn't matter. Nursing school applications at my school simply ask the following and move on, "Do you have a high school diploma or GED?"

I have shared this information before, but it bears repeating.

I am personally acquainted with two Chief Nursing Officers - both have achieved doctoral degrees. They BOTH began their academic careers with GEDs. One didn't even obtain a GED until age 24. It did not hinder either one. Your nursing education can start anywhere - it is up to you to determine where it leads.

Wishing you the absolute best of luck on your educational pathway.
