Anyone else waiting for next semester?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am a non-traditional student(33 year old readmit) and have decided to go back to get my nursing degree. I have to take A&P over since it has been longer than five years since I took it which sucks, but I hope to improve on the B I received then. I have opted to take A&P I over the summer and A&P II in the fall so I can have all my pre-reqs done in time for the February 1st Fall 2015 application deadlines. It will mean taking 20 hours in the fall, but I am confident in my ability to maintain a high average.

The only part of this that is killing me is the wait. I am so ready to start this journey and I still have two months before I even go back to school. I have been a SAHM for the past 10 years so this is a huge move for me. Since making the decision, I have had enough downtime to basically plan out my entire education plan along with a few contingencies. Anyone else in the same boat? I think I will need a support group by the time Summer term comes around.

Wow.. what errors did your schools make?

Mine was due to my advisor not informing me that I needed to take chemistry again at this school. At the last school I went to I took it and passed with a D. However, and understandably, a D was not a sufficient grade for this school I am at now. Fortunately, taking chemistry over again will not count as a retake against my nursing school points when I do apply, but the fact that I have to take it this coming quarter will mean that those required credits will not appear on my application. A bad deal for me, which could have been avoided if she had caught it. I was not aware that it wouldn't work and thought my chem. credits from my previous school counted. I was always under the impression that everything was fine as far as that class went.

The waiting is just crazy. I have a previous BS that I got in 2010. When I decided to go back to school last summer it was kind of last minute so it was too late to get into an ADN or LPN program so I signed up for prereqs at university. Then we decided to move, but I missed the deadline to apply to other schools (I mean really, is 6 months ahead of time really necessary?) so it looks like I will end up taking a semester off or retaking a few classes to strengthen my GPA while I wait. Meanwhile in my area the TEAS has already happened so I will most likely end up having to drive four hours each way and miss class to take it. If I don't get in first try I don't know what I'll do. The hoops have been getting rather tiresome.

Me too was planning to move and it did not workout and now got a job that I need but don't you know the school where I can get my pre reqs only give them at times I'm at work what happened to night classes for people who need to work thanks for listening I needed to vent

I kinda decided at the spur of the moment last year to go back to school and finish my degree. I had thought about it for a long time, but my ex wouldn't let me. He didn't want to have to pay for it he said. Well I went and filed for divorce and signed up for school in the same week. And the completely ironic thing is he has to pay for my school now. I was a SAHM for 8 years and because he had me quit school when we got married, he now has to pay for it. Kinda crazy if you ask me. So I didn't have to wait to start my journey like you do. I just signed up and started class the very next week. I applied to nursing school last month so we will see at the end of May whether or not I got one of the 20 coveted seats.

This is my last semester of prerequisites, but my school has a waiting list, so I won't be able to start clinicals until next Spring semester. I am going to take extra classes in the fall, though, that will apply towards my BSN (I'll be in an ADN program, then going for an RN-to-BSN degree after).
