Advice on Nursing Schools :(

Hi guys ... I'm totally new here but I'm stuck in a big rut :confused:

I'm a pre-nursing student (NY), third year in college but i haven't been accepted into my school's program yet. i was rejected last year from the program but I wasn't too far from the top 100 list. i decided to wait it out but looks like chances might be slim this year due to the range of scores :crying2: my GPA is like a 3.3 ... :( and my NLN score ended up being around the low 90 percentile. i could only apply to my school once every year... i really want to get into my school since ive spent majority of my time here. sadly, my pre-requisite grades dont seem good enough. my school is considered one of the top and one of the cheapest ... should i wait it out again or apply another school? previously, i didn't want to apply to other schools because they were lowered in rank and MUCH MUCH MUCH more costly... eeps! but staying in this school with undeclared major makes me feel like my parents' money is going down the drain :eek:

my resume is .... because i spent most of my time working, i used to do a ton of volunteer work in high school.

i feel like i've been here forever! is it worth it?!

Can you re-take your NLN to improve your score? Do you have more pre-reqs yet to take that you can use to boost your GPA? If not, and you get turned down twice from your first choice school, I'd say it's time to start applying elsewhere. :(

You can always apply to other programs while you wait to hear back from this school...that doesn't mean there's no chance of you going to your top pick - just that this way you have options! I totally hear you on the wanting to go the more prestigious and cheaper path - that's an ideal program right there! But studemt loans exist for a reason, and they're not the end of the world.

Don't let this get you down, lots of people are going through what you are. Just keep working towards your goals! Your path may stray from what you thought it would look like, but if you get to the other side of nursing school -- I'm sure it will feel just as good regardless of the program you end up choosing.

90 percentile is good right? You scored better than 90% of people who took the test. Stop being so harsh on yourself. A 3.3 is a pretty good GPA; it is not bad. I would apply to other schools and wait and see if you got into your school. Do your best in all your classes so that you can boost your GPA up a bit. What are the other qualifications that your school looks at? A lot of schools will give extra points to applicants that are CNAs. Maybe you should get certified. What makes you stand out from the other applicants?

Thanks LilMSSunshine :) my school only looks at the GPA (50%) and NLN entrance exam (50%)... there's nothing else that they look at. i think i will look into schools because they seem to offer more available seats. i'm a little hard on myself because a lot of the students this year seem to have scored really high and also have a high GPA. the fact that only 100 seats are offered makes it nerve-racking.

i will definitely look up schools...i'm just nervous also because it's possible that their criteria might be just as high. other schools also require SAT scores and mine wasn't so high so i'm wondering if that will be a problem... :confused: i don't want to go to a school that's more expensive with a less known reputation. i heard its hard to get a job when you go to a school less known for nursing :(
