Accelerated Nursing. Feeling so discouraged.

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I have wanted to be an RN since high school, I'm a CNA, and I started taking the pre-requisites for nursing my first semester of college hoping to get into my local community colleges RN program. I applied 3 times with a 3.7 GPA and I never got in. While pursuing my bachelors degree I have applied to other RN programs to get in as a transfer student and I never got in anywhere. Multiple rejection letters and I'm still trying. I'm almost 23 now and will have my bachelors in Psychology this May and will have most of the pre-requisites for a second degree RN accelerated program (I'm hoping to get into an accelerated program next spring/summer). I failed Chemistry and I'm re-taking it now and doing much better. I'll be taking Microbiology this summer and then everything will be complete. I have a B in AP I and a C in AP II (I'm thinking about re-taking the AP II). I have A's and B's in all the Psychology and Statistic pre-requisites as well. I have a good recommendation letter from my employer who I am currently working for. I feel that my personal statement is pretty well written as well, and I'm just waiting on two more recommendations. I have spent so much time and effort and I'm feeling extremely frustrated and discouraged. I have been working so hard to achieve this goal that has been seemingly impossible. I also have a 2 year old. I'm just looking for any support or advice at all to get through all this. It's all I've ever wanted as a career.

Have you contacted any sort of advisor for the program that you are interested in? All programs are different and they rank their applicants according to different factors. Were you ever told why you were not accepted to previous programs you applied to? Don't be afraid to ask; that is what these people are there for. Maybe you were missing something on your application. Maybe you need to retake a class or two to bring up your prerequisite GPA. I would think that a 3.7 would be competitive for acceptance in most programs, but maybe your overall GPA is not what they are looking at. My school ranked us off of prereq GPA. If this is what you want to do, then get out there and fight for it!
