"Acceptable" nursing school debt

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I as well as many students am concerned of the debt that comes with attending nursing school. I have a background in firefighting and paramedicine and Im trying to decide if nursing school is financially feasible. I currently have $10,000 in student loan debt and have been accepted to start school at Saint John Fisher College(SJFC) for the Spring semester. If I complete this program I will be left in about $60,000 of debt. SJFC has a very high NCLEX pass rate and I am fairly confident I can complete their program. Is this a realistic amount of debt to go into for a BSN? I am from upstate NY and most new grad RNS seem to be working for around 25$ an hour. I am currently living with family and would have 0 cost of living during this time and these figures are solely based off of education expenses. What is realistic in terms of a yearly raises for nurses? I would like to stay in the upstate NY area but also would consider traveling for a few years if the pay would make it easier to pay off loans.

Probably look into nursecorps or a program that would help if you dedicate your time with them. Good luck!
