TCU, weslyan clinical sites

In TCU or Texas weslyan Can the students pick their choice of clinical sites Or can the school send them out of Texas for rotation?

I'm sure someone else has had a totally different experience, but here's what I know...

TCU you rank on the application. Example 1 - Ft Worth, 6 - Alaska, 3 - Tulsa, OK and so on. They take into consideration where you live, family, if you have a house, where your home is, etc. They ask you about your choices in the interview... or I might have brought it up as a question I asked them at the end of the interview... kinda fuzzy.

TWU will assign you a spot. My friend had gotten Houston, but he asked if he could be at a specific spot in Ft Worth. They said OK and that was that. Not sure I'd have the guts to ask to change my clinical spot in the interview before I was ever accepted (more of a 'can't have your cake and eat it too' kinda guy). But at the end of his interview they asked if he wanted to start in August and that was that.

So to answer your question again, they can keep you near the school, or send you away. You're kind of at their mercy. But depending on how you interview, your overall application, and the feel you have during the interview (halfway through you might be thinking "I'm in") and can start to bargain with them for clinical sites. For the most part, I believe they all try to keep you as close as they can to where you want to be. They don't wanna make it any more stressful on you. They want you to make their attrition rates look good.

That's good to know. Is it a case with almost all CRNA schools or since TCU has multiple locations. I live in Dallas with husband and kids. Can't think of leaving the town. But if there is no choice I will do it. How long is the clinicals? How many days in a week do u typically go? Is the site permanent or tend to change. I know these are lot to answer but I wanted to get a clear picture. Thanks a lot.

TWU will have you rank your choices as well, but then they have the final say in determining the site. From what I understand, you will be at that one site for your entire clinical period, unless you are unable to get experience with a certain type of case there (for example, the hospital doesn't do open hearts). If you must go to a different facility to get the specialty experience, I think you do month long rotations. I interviewed there this month and that is how it was explained to me.
