What direction will you go after graduation?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Specializes in ICU.

This is something I'm pondering right now despite having another year of school left. This thought came up while arranging clinical preceptors for the next 3 semesters. Right now I'm really liking Pulmonary and Neuro. Pulmonary partially because the largest group in the state has offices right in my area, and the current MDs & PAs are of high caliber. They also offer an extensive orientation program for new grads. No need for experience. Neuro because it's my passion. So far they don't have any NPs working with the primary group at my hospital, and only one PA. Would they hire me despite a lack of surgical rotations?

So where are you hoping to move onto after graduation?

Specializes in Neonatal ICU (Cardiothoracic).

Right now I'm hoping to return to my old unit, a Level III NICU, and become the first NNP they've had in several years. I'm also hoping they'll decide to hire me when I'm done. I was a staff nurse there for almost 3 years, and loved it. I'd love to get their neonatal air transport program off the ground (no pun intended)
