western university of health sciences...

  1. Hello!
I was wondering if anybody can tell me anything about the environment of this school - Western University of Health Sciences - the MSN-entry program. I was recently admitted, and they didn't require that I go on an interview. Did anyone interview there? What was the faculty like? What was the campus like? What is the program like? How well do nursing students there do in terms of getting jobs? I'd like to get a sense of the learning environment and the strength of the program. I wouldn't have time to visit until spring time (I'm still an undergrad), and I would really appreciate anyone's input on this!

    Thank you!

Hey! I actually interviewed there about a week ago and toured the campus. It's a very small campus and everyone was helpful and nice, but not nearly as organized as Yale was (I also interviewed there). The only reason I was turned off from the school is that after the first year it is mostly distance based learning and also since you are really only a part time student and also working as an RN, it takes 4 years to become a family nurse practitioner. Let me know if you hear anything else! and if you have any specific questions feel free to ask me!

Yeah, I was also admitted without an interview there. I decided against Western because Pomona isn't a great city to live in (I grew up near there) and it would take 4 years to become an NP and they don't give out a BSN. It was also very expensive. They also only gave me until Jan 23rd to give them a $500 deposit to hold my space. I wish I hadn't given them the money, I got into another school...sigh Best of luck to you!

    Hi cheakeemonkee!

I also did the $500 deposit, and I got into 2 schools the week afterwards! I was tormented by the deadline date and having no other prospects for schooling. Oh well. Glad to have your opinion on the city.

I applied to a few other schools as well, but still chose to go to western because it is the only school that has a FNP certificate. Most other schools only offer becoming a clinical nurse.

also, while pomona may not be the best city to live in, there are lots of better areas near pomona.
