USF master's entry-CNL

Hi Everyone, Just thought I would post and share that yesterday I received my letter letting me know I was not admitted. Very disappointing, but good to know one way or the other.

Lizzy: are you from the fresno area? Do you plan to apply to any other programs now? I am in the Fresno City Lottery, have been for a year and a half. Trying to figure out what my next steps are.

Scuba: Were you able to find out anything yet?

Not that it matters...but I finally got the official letter letting me know I didn't make it into the program


I'm not from the Fresno area. I'm in the SF Bay area and have applied to a few other programs. Still waiting to hear back from SF State and Samuel Merritt. In the meantime I going to take some additional classes and work as CNA.

No haven't heard anything yet. Sounds like most acceptance letters have gone out so guess just waiting on the denial letter. I've got into COS's nursing program so at least I have that in my pocket. The problem is nobody wants to give a loan for an AS program and I need to borrow money to live on while I do the program. The few places I've found that will lend money do so at like 14% interest. It's just hard to justify going so far into debt for another undergrad degree, especially when I already have a bachelor's. I guess I have to do what I have to do. I desperately want to get into the health industry so looks like that's the sacrifice I'm going to have to take. I hope you get some good info from another school. COS has one of the top nursing programs in the state so you may want to apply there for next semester. No Masters program though. Let me know if you need any info. Have done a lot of research on the topic.

Dont give up hope yet. There is a good chance you still got in if you didn't recieve a rejection letter this week. I was in the office personally on Tuesday and she told me not all the acceptance letter had been sent out. Thanks for the info on COS, I am going to look into that. I am trying to stay in Fresno, but am figuring out that may not work. I have been in the Fresno City lottery for some time now, so I am hoping my wait is just about over. The average wait is two years, and I have been waiting 1 1/2. Good Luck with Fresno State, I think you still have a chance!!

Hi Lizzy, did you apply the smu- elmsn fnp program? And were you at the interviews held in late feb??

Has anyone actually heard of how good/bad their MSN program is? I checked out google and couldn't find anything. Also, for those of you who got accepted where will you be staying? I'm having such a hard time looking for a place to stay that I'm considering backing out. I went to the school to check out what the classrooms looked like and was somewhat disappointed by what I saw. The buildings looked as they did in the 70's - old and outdated. The maps on campus weren't very helpful either. Had to ask around til I found McLane Hall, which isn't clearly labeled nursing by the way. I practically spent the entire day walking around til I got blisters on my feet! Still having a tough time resolving how the nursing and physics departments share the same area despite grants they've received to beef up their program. Looks more like trying to stay afloat than actually moving on the up and up.

I'm also from the Bay Area and I'm having doubts as to whether or not to do this. I have family here so I'll be visiting them often. It's a 3-hour drive one way and the program is 3 years long. I don't know if it will be worth the trouble for me to go through with this. I also got into to 2 other AS programs near where I live but I'm thinking that getting an AS after already having a bachelor's degree seems like a step back. I'd like to see what you guys think.

Also on the cost estimate sheet, why didn't they include the expenses for Spring 2010? Anybody know what that would be?

The letter I got says, "As you know, this will be a very intensive program during the summer 2009." But how does this compare to Fall's schedule? Anybody know how many units there would be for Fall?

USF is ranked 47 or 54 according the US News and World Report for graduate MSN programs. USD was the other. Their orientation is on 5/14 because classes start on 5/26...I declined their offer.

Did anyone here get a letter saying they were on the waiting list?

I originally received a rejection letter late March and then I received a phone call about the last week of April saying they had available slots if I was interested. I told them I was and afterwards received an official admission letter, but then based on the cost and outline of the program I declined. Hope that helps!

The cost is actually not bad at all considering it's a graduate program. Tuition at Samuel Merritt, which if I'm not mistaken, costs something like $30,000 per semester for their ELMSN. What I do find interesting however is how Fresno seems to be always pointing out the fact that their program doesn't prepare the student for a BSN. I'm wondering what the deal is on this. I mean, isn't an MSN better than a BSN? If so, why then do they keep flashing the no-BSN deal as if one should take caution? They even have you initial a statement acknowledging this fact, which looks a lot like a liability waiver of sorts.

Anyway, what have you guys heard about Fresno's program? Anything good? bad? I don't see very many FSU-ers posting anything anywhere about their experiences. I'm hoping it's a sign that the program is more good than not so good. It would be a big waste to find out at the last minute that the program sucks.
