University of San Francisco Fall 2014 OC MSN CNL for non-nurses

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi Everyone,

I figured I start a new thread for OC Fall 2014 students. As you all most likely heard from USF recruiter, USF has decided to screw all of us by taking half a year away. I couldn't believe it when I heard it. I didn't know what to think or what to say, all I did was cry especially with all the planning, getting things checked off the to-do list and they ended up pulling the plug. :sorry:

So here, I would like to hear back from all my classmates and hopefully we can all get together as a team and complain. I'm not a 100% where all of you are coming from but If I'm not mistaken, some of you like me have already started to look for a place to stay and may even paid thousands of dollars for deposit, gas, travel time and so forth. I was going to move from San Francisco and If there are any of you that would like to stay here in the city or go to the main campus, please speak up with me. I will be complaining and hopefully we all can be moved to SF main campus for spring rather then SoCal.

If all of us speak up, the possibility of us actually starting spring is more highly then to wait around and just HOPE OC in Spring will actually happen.

I was thinking since we only had 2 options which is 1) stick around and do something for 6 months and cross our fingers that they do not pull the plug on us again in Spring or 2) withdrawal our names and risk it all by either reapplying to USF or apply to other schools.

I WISH they had a 3rd choice; to move us forward to Spring CNL main campus where we are guaranteed to start without any worries of them pulling the rug from under us.

I hope you all will read this, especially those who have accepted the offer and was looking forward to starting the program with me.

Julie

@MissJules I haven't been accepted to the OC location, but I turned in my application in June. What exactly are you talking about "pulling the plug"...I haven't heard anything. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Also, why do you say 6 months? Six months isn't a spring start....thats Dec/Jan, right?

- @stellula: So here is the update with OC cohort. I don't know why they are still accepting students or is asking students to turn in application when they literally pulled the plug on it. FALL 2014 cohort is suppose to start August 19th but they Pulled the plug meaning it is no longer open for anyone. I was accepted to that cohort and have finished everything that was asked including getting all the funds and getting ready to move but they had an issue with professor for that cohort. On another note, The SoCal campus is not accredited as they are still currently trying to get it approved. Why did I say six months? because like I said, They pulled the plug on Fall 2014 so that is no longer a valid semester. They will reopen for Spring semester which is starting January 2015.

Fall suppose to begin August 19th

Spring is January and Summer is May I believe.

So for anyone reading this thread and is intended to apply for Fall 2014 cohort, its not going to happen which is more upsetting to me the fact that they are not releasing the information to potential students. The amount of money you throw in for application fee, background check and getting all your health requirements done seems very messed up because I know they will send a letter back to say you been rejected or even wait listed but in the end result...there is No Fall 2014 semester even if it says accepted. They will highly likely just tell you last minute.

Once again, I was accepted to Fall 2014 and they called me to let me know that the fall cohort has been postpone to Spring 2015 due to an issue with finding clinical instructor.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask me.

@missjules Wow. That is soooo bad. Once I finally hear from them, I'm going to request my application fee reimbursed because we were obviously misled. They never should have released that information. Who knows how many people applied?

I didn't know that Jan start meant "spring" and May meant "summer"...now the 6 months thing makes more sense.

You know, I was wondering how they were going to get qualified teachers down there and build it up so fast....

That's really disappointing!

I'm a current student at the SF Campus and I will follow up with this and get back to you.

Hi all,

I am at USF and it seems the cohort was delayed until Spring 2015 since the board of nursing delayed meeting to approve programs until November. When USF was informed of this it immediately notified those who had made a deposit so they could halt any moving plans ASAP, however all other applicants will be informed this week.

Yes the options are two, one cancel your application, those who paid for the app fee will get a refund, but I believe most received a waiver for that OR keep their spot for when the program does start.

I was told very clearly there is no option 3, to get a spot in SF, as most of those who applied were already waitlisted at the USF SF campus, the SoCal campus is less competitive since no one knew about it so it was a tad easier to get in, so for those waitlisted in SF for Summer, you can reapply for Spring again, which puts you at the same place you were before the SoCal cohort, but you must be reviewed with that cohort of applicants for admission, it seems most people who applied for OC really wanted to stay in SF but were not able to secure a spot there, but again you can re-apply is that is your preferred location.

@stellula - Yes, I hope you get your refund back if you don't plan on going to USF OC campus. I was thinking the same thing about them getting qualified teachers which worries me a bit now. Very disappointed!

@kuriin - Any and all information will be greatly appreicated!

@myfiles2000 - Yes, in my previous post i had clearly stated that I WISH there was a third option to stay in SF but there isn't. It was wishful thinking

As I was reading your post "so for those waitlisted in SF for Summer, you can reapply for Spring again, which puts you at the same place you were before the SoCal cohort, but you must be reviewed with that cohort of applicants for admission, it seems most people who applied for OC really wanted to stay in SF but were not able to secure a spot there, but again you can re-apply is that is your preferred location." I'm a bit confused to what your trying to say? I was waitlisted for summer SF but got accepted to Fall OC and I really wanted to stay in the city. I spoke to someone at USF and she said that if i withdraw myself from Fall OC, I would have to start the process all over as if I was never admitted and basically pretend I was rejected. But what you just said unless i'm mistaken is that i can reapply for spring which puts me at the same spot before SoCal cohort meaning I will be waitlisted again? Not sure if that was what you meant. Maybe i'm reading to literal.

After reading it 3 times...when you wrote "you must be reviewed with that cohort of applicants for admission" I'm assuming this is the start all over. My application will just be thrown in the pool of the new applicants?

Sorry for the repetitiveness. I'm a bit disappointed with this whole postponing and delay with board of nursing.

hey MissJules,

Yes what i meant was that if the whole SoCal cohort had never happened, you would be reapplying for SF spring to be considered again, since you didn't make it off the waitlist, so basically that is where you are again if you decide not too proceed with SoCal whenever that starts...yeap I totally get it with having to restart or wait six months SMH

Boooo this is upsetting! So if they will be postponing the SoCal cohort to Spring 2015... have they announced a new application deadline?

Has USF given you any update on when your program will start?

I heard this program is finally getting approved by the board. Has USF sent any update?
