University of Minnesota Master of Nursing Applicants??

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi all! Just curious if anyone out there just submitted an application for the University of Minnesota Master of Nursing program (Fall 2014 start)? I have been taking prerequisites for this program for years, and I cannot believe the time has finally come to put my hat in the ring. The program only has a 20% acceptance rate, so who knows... But I know I worked my butt off to become a good applicant. Very nerve wracking though. Anyone else going through the same waiting game?

I had my interview two weeks ago, I am so anxious to get their decision! Waiting is the worst! The woman who interviewed me said "mid-April" so it might be another week...it seems like they send out emails Fridays and the end of the day, so we could find out this week or have another week to wait. Did anyone else apply for the BSN program (the 3-year program) as well?

I am soooo hoping me find out by this Friday and don't have to make it through another weekend of waiting. I agree--waiting is the worst! I did not apply to the BSN program. Have you found out about that yet?

I haven't heard from the BSN yet, but I just got the acceptance for the Masters! So stoked! I hope everyone got good news too!

I imagine you will choose the MN over BSN? I also got in to MN. Whew! I hope the rest also got the news you wanted.

I sure did. Congrats!

Found out yesterday that I got in! Yay! Congrats to everyone who gets in!

Congratulations to all accepted! :)

Question: any fellow wait-listed applicants? Have you heard anything about this whole process outside of the one email we received?

Also, any accepted students planning on choosing another school? Unfortunately, I "put all of my eggs in one basket" and just applied to the U of M with the hopes of acceptance... crossing my fingers.

I also only put eggs in one basket, but other school I was looking at was ASU (Arizona State). I don't know if moving out of state is an option for you, but they have a good ABSN program. If accepted, you would start in Jan. and be done end of 2015, same as the MN program. From what I gathered (I'm not absolutely sure about this) their tuition is commensurate with the U's. I also like their application process - first you speak with an advisor who goes over your transcript and verifies that you are ready to apply. You do have to take the TEAS test. It seems like most deadlines for ABSN & MN programs run from Sept - Jan.

Hi all! I also got in at U of Min. for Psych BSN-DNP? Maybe we can connect soon. I am from FL. Is any one doing summer classes?

I am preparing for applying for next year's U of MN MS in Nursing program. Where did you all who live in MN take your prerequisites?

What kind of questions do they ask during interview? How did you prepare?

I took all my prereqs at the U of MN, except for chemistry, which I took at a community college years ago. I really worked for high grades with my prereqs and got a GPA of 3.9 (undergrad was 3.3). For the interview, I brainstormed what kind of questions I thought might be asked and I also searched online for interview ?s and thought of answers to ones that seemed relevant. I thought about why I wanted to be a nurse, what personal qualities I have and experiences (types of jobs, volunteering etc) I have had that would serve me well as a nurse. Also tried to think of challenges I've overcome on a general level as well as how I've dealt with conflicts or tough situations in specific instances. There were ten questions we went through and I was told they were the same for all interviewees. I was glad I had spent some time jotting down ideas because then I didn't have to come up with stuff on the fly for every question and I knew at least some of my answers would be well thought out. The woman who interviewed me was very nice and personable which helped me feel at ease (relatively!) Hope this helps. Good luck!

Was so happy to find this old thread! On Fri Mar 6 around 3pm, I was starting to freak out about not having heard yet too. But then I saw here that it didn't happen until 4:10pm last year, and so I was able to calm down again. Sure enough, at 4:09pm my email interview invite came in!

Good luck to everyone else out there preparing for their interview next week too!
