online group projects

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

I am currently enrolled in an online MSN program - taking two classes. BOTH of these classes have weekly group projects that account for a significant portion of the grade. The reason I chose an online program is because I work quite a few hours on an unpredictable schedule. I was greatly prefer to be responsible only to myself for my learning and scheduling and, while a few friends wouldn't be a bad thing, I am not looking for 'buddies' to chat with or 'pokes' from a social network.

Does anyone know of an online MSN program [focus on ACNP with or without Educator component] that does NOT have these group projects?

How hard is it to transfer if you are early in the pursuit of your MSN [this is only my first semester at this university].

Hi, I could be wrong but I think, especially with non-traditional, on-line or distance nursing programs, the trend, especially in graduate school, is to work with or within groups.

I do not enjoy this as there is always one or two in the group that either submit the required work LATE or incomplete or totally incomprehensible and you (as team leader) must "fix it" before submitting it....And the kicker is, the entire group gets the same mark, never mind the one or two in the group who never contribute or were frequently late with the assignments or work was so shabby....Gggrrrrr....Did I mention I don't enjoy working with groups?

But it is what it is....I don't think there is a program in the U.S. that does not subscribe to group projects. If there is, dear forum readers, please clue us in!

As for the second part of your query, submit your applications. Not sure of the deadline where you are and which programs you are looking at.

GOOD LUCK

Try checking Kaplan University. I was interested in them, but decided to go elsewhere. However, one of the perks there is the not working in groups.

Hi Mave

Yeah I looked at Kaplan but I wasn't interested in what they had to offer at the Graduate Nursing level; I am interested in either FNP or CNS.

And, btw, you look awesome (your avatar). Mine is also a very good, realistic picture of myself BEFORE I have had my first cup of tea for the day!
