Who all will be starting officially this fall?

Are you getting excited yet?

What color are your scrubs? What color stethescope are you getting? What kind of BP cuff are you getting?

I'm insanely excited.

Street clothes, white coat, my friendly 15 year old black master cardio, and uhm...we don't have to buy a blood pressure cuff - we did however have to buy a diagnostic set...

You don't wear scrubs as a grad-entry student?? Cool!

By grad entry... I am not sure what you mean by that. The Undergraduate students wear scrubs, but the grad students are expected to dress in regular street clothes with a white coat.

Urp! Answered my own question by reading another thread!

I wonder if there are any of those programs in Texas? I have a friend who would do great in that kind of program.

Yeah I would imagine you would need scrubs for the RN part :)

As for steths - if you havn't bought one yet, buy the absolute best you can afford, take a friend along to try them out on. My old Littman has made it through thick and thin, and I can hear EVERY little nuance with that thing! Those double spragues might be ok for breath sounds, but when you need to do a more detailed cardiac exam in your NP program, you will appreciate the better scope!

There are specific graduate programs called "graduate entry". It's for people with non-nursing degrees to come back for a second career and essentially take accellerated RN courses, sit for their NCLEX and then continue on to graduate classes immediately (or not, depending on specialty)

The idea is that we already have all the general classes that an undergrad would take and so we should be able to dive straight into the nursing courses.

We're required to get a littman cardio II (some of the specialties need a higher grade) I know that by the time I'm practicing, I will not be using my steth, because the NICUs here all have individual steths for each baby for infection control.

How cute are you! :chuckle I am very excited as well! (kind of scared stupid, too! :uhoh21: ) GEP @ UMass Medical. We have navy pants & white polo type shirts + white coats. I decided to spice up my life with Littmann II's Raspberry colored scope (bright pink! :p

Good luck!

I'm starting this fall at BC's Direct Entry program. I have my Danskos, but I'm waiting till orientation to get the scrubs. I hear ours are maroon. I wanted to ask some of the second years who will be at orientation about the stethescope too- cause I wasn't sure which one to get. I'm excited! Where are you going to school?

I'm going to Ohio State.

We're required to all get ours together and it's cheaper to get them now. Ours are a true red. I laugh because it's like "warning warning! Student nurse!!"

We're required to get a cardiology grade stethescope. They told us to get the Littman Cardiology III. I ordered one from allheart.com, but it's on backorder! Plum is the color I chose ;)

I'm thinking about getting crocs for shoes. Less expensive than the danskos or similar and I hear fabulous things about them.

Hi!

Congratulations to all of you, you must be thrilled. I am in the process of applying to masters entry programs and I am actually applying to all the programs you are about to begin. Any advice to someone starting the application process? I'm also applying to one 2nd bachelors program at UMASS Amherst. Any thoughts on 2nd Bachelors vs. Direct Entry?

Well you are all making me very excited with your stethescope, scrubs discussion, best of luck to all of you, I can't wait to follow in your footsteps!

yes

(quivering in my boots)

i am starting next week. i'll be taking only one class, but with working full-time, its all i can manage right now. my professor has given me her go-ahead to do what i can do with scheduling so that i can get there and stay there despite on-call, etc. the only thing that scares me more than the committment of being back in school is the cost of books. i swear the bookstore needs a fainting couch by the cashier.
