Direct Entry MSN Programs 2013

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Anyone on here applying to direct entry MSN programs that begin in summer or fall of 2013? I think I have finalized my list of programs to apply to, and I am beginning to get everything together to start applying this summer/early fall (I know this is rather early, but I'm a bit anxious and I was wondering if there was anyone else on this board who is just as excited as me!). I am pretty certain that I will be applying to UPenn, Yale, Johns Hopkins, Northeastern, University of Massachusetts, Boston College, Columbia, Vanderbilt, and Marquette. I am also applying to a few accelerated BSN programs in my state (Florida) - UCF and UF, for sure. I have all of my prerequisite courses completed, and currently have a 3.76, but my BS is still in progress and I have to retake the GRE this summer. I look forward to hearing from other people!

Anyone applying to U of Rochester or heard anything about the program? I think I am going to add that to my list for winter admission if I don't get in anywhere. They are not that picky with there pre-req

I just googled the program and it looks very good! I may consider applying to it, as well.

I also meant to add in to my prior post that I decided against MGH because the application fee was insane to me ($100), especially knowing that I'd need to pay to send my GRE scores and transcripts. So that, along with not offering pediatric acute/critical care as a masters specialty, made me decide not to apply.

For the person who was asking how to determine whether a school was more competitive, I use the rankings provided here: Best Nursing Programs | Top Nursing Schools | US News Best Graduate Schools

What is your focus going to be? Are you looking for nurse practitioner programs, nursing management, nursing education? I am currently a student of McKendree University's online program. I enrolled in the RN-MSN program with a focus in nursing education. I have already completed my BSN program and now I'm in my first semester MSN program. I love their program, and it is more affordable. I was originally going to go to Georgetown University, but the cost deterred me.

Georgetown University was over $80,000 at $1680 per credit hour, University of Cincinnati was around $40,000 at $720 per credit hour, and Frontier University (birthplace of nurse-midwifery and FNP programs) came in at less than $28,000 with $465-505 per credit hour depending on if you are full-time or part-time. A significant difference. These are just some of the schools I looked into. I have an entire list. These three are online programs, and you have to visit the campus a few times for clinical labs. Hope this helps. BTW this was for the Master's programs, I did not even look into the DNP programs.

I am assuming you're already an RN since your doing an RN-MSN. Most of us are not nurses yet so we would be unable to do that program. The cost for all of these programs are so high because most of them are at private institutions. I am probably a little bit in denial with all the money it is going to cost but I am going to cross that bridge if/when I get into a program. I am pretty sure Cincy required molecular genetics as a pre-req which I didn't have so I am not applying there.

Got the myportal information for Penn, November is right around the corner. Good luck to everyone applying there.

I received it as well! Very exciting. Good luck to all!

I was really considering applying to MGH for the women's health NP program. Has anyone heard much about this school? I saw they are ranked #64 as an overall nursing school and they do have that $100 application fee. Now I want to learn more about the school before I give it my 100%

Kdiem:

I am applying for the FNP track at MGH. I am going to be in Boston on 11/5 and made an appointment with an admissions counselor so I can let you know how that goes. Reading the blogs it seems that people have a good experience. It's expensive but all of the other schools are just as expensive or even more expensive and honestly we all know it doesnt even really matter where we go to school were all gonna end up with the same job. The application is really easy since they want unofficial transcripts to be uploaded directly to the application so you don't have to mail anything in.

Kdiem - I have a friend who goes there and seems to really like it. I'll be going to an info session in a few weeks and can give you more info then, if you want!
