APU ELM for Fall 2013

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

I just applied to the Entry Level Masters program for Azusa Pacificu University and the deadline was November 1st....has anyone received a phone call for an interview? They are very vague on when you might hear something so I just want to know if anyone has heard....I have a 4.0 in all my pre reqs and a 3.7 GPA on my previous bachelors...I have no volunteer work so im curious if im still competitive or what you guys have going in as well that have heard...I dont know if its going through the pile thing, or if they call the people they like the best first? Im trying to be patient but I just need to hear something!!

I got accepted to the inland empire campus. So far, I have only gotten an email and have spoken to the office of admissions who told me I should receive an official letter soon. I haven't received any packets or info on next steps.. I guess I will just have to wait for my packet! I'm just so excited I can't wait to start the program!

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone would mind giving an example of a reference they used for the 'personal' reference requirement. On the form it says that family and friends are not acceptable, but when I e-mailed someone about it a few months ago they suggested a friend that knows you personally or a colleague who is also a friend. I'm just a little confused so if anyone who was accepted/is applying now has any examples I would really appreciate it.

Hey guys, I'm a member of cohort 27 at APU main campus.

References: I applied to multiple programs, so I don't remember which I submitted to APU. But here's the list of of people who wrote letters for me:

Dean of Science at Community College where I did my pre-reqs

Anatomy/Physiology Professor

Biology Prof (I was his TA)

Old Boss

Current Pastor

A friend I served on a non-profit board with

Coordinator of Volunteer program at a hospital

Hope that helps!

@emu I had actually emailed the school asking the same question and they said that most students asked their pastor for a letter. I chose to ask my coworker (an attorney) for a letter instead and apparently it was good enough because I was accepted to the program! I say don't over think it, just ask someone that you feel knows you (and your work ethic) well.

Hi everyone!

I was admitted to the Main Campus for the ELM program starting this January (I guess Spring 2014) but still need to take the research methods in psychology and biochem prerequisite. I am going to try to take the psychology class online at Foothill Community College this summer, but am having trouble finding a biochem course online. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I got an acceptance letter from the graduate school of APU as well, but have yet to receive a packet with more information from the nursing school in specific. I wonder when they will be coming out??

Thanks!!

APU online offers the chem class I believe.

I found getting into a research methods class in one of the local community college is really difficult unless you are an established student at that particular college. APOU does have an online chemistry course, it's part if the pre-nursing certificate program. There is an online research methods course taught through Rio Salado community college out of Arizona and this course is approved by the ELMN program. I'm taking it now and it's doable if you work full-time...congrats on getting accepted!!

They will be sending out the packet soon! I had the same question. =]

Was it easy to get into the research methods class or is it like other community colleges where you have to battle for registration? I need to take it asap.

It was very easy...just applied, submitted my transcripts for the pre-Reqs and paid the class fee...highly recommend...as there was no way I was going to get into any of the cc courses because I was not already an established student

It's a 14 week course total...with one week dedicated for the mid term and the last week for the final. I did not experience any difficulty getting in at all...it's a little more pricey than local cc's...the four unit class cost $865 not including books...which is maybe an additional $80. It was worth the price for me as I needed the class and couldn't risk losing out by just going with a cc.
