Any UCLA MECN students out there?

by amm2061

Hey! I was just accepted for the MECN program at UCLA to begin this fall. I'm so excited but nervous at the same time to start at such a new program! Any other students starting as well or suggestions from other masters entry students about their experiences??? Thanks!!

hey hey,

i got into UCLA grad school of nursing but (family nurse practitioner program) not the MECN program because I will be graduating with my BSN in a week. sadly i won't see you there; i turned down UCLA to attend another school.

but i just want to let you know that you are in good hands. UCLA is great and if you've visited the campus, it's absolutely to die for. it's gorgeous.

enjoy california, i envy you and congrats!

I'm interested in applying to the UCLA MECN program. Do you mind if I ask you what your application profile was like?

What was your GPA and GRE? Do you know what type of student the program is looking for or how competitive the program is? Did you apply anywhere else?

Thank you for your help!!

The program hasn't officially started yet (Fall 2006 will be the first MECN cohort and they will also be starting up a BSN track) so I can't tell you too much about the level of competitiveness. I do know they offered admission to 60 students, out of how many applicants I'm not quite sure. No GRE was necessary and my GPA from my first graduate degree was a 3.9. I had a 3.4 for my bachelors. I'm coming to the field from social work so my app didn't reflect much health care experience, though it seems to me UCLA is open to having students from varied professional backgrounds...

I'm living in New York right now so I applied to a few acc programs out here and was admitted to NYU and a state university....

Hope that helps!!

hello!

I was admitted to UCLA's FNP program full-time. I just (literally, I graduated yesterday!) graduated with my BSN. My double-majored in Chinese and Nursing. I didn't take the GREs for UCLA because it wasn't required. My cumulative GPA is 3.5 something; nursing gpa 3.78 and chinese gpa 3.95. I'm from NJ so I thought it'd be impossible to get into an UC school but apparently, it's not.

I believe my extracurricular activities really made me stand out from other applicants because I'm sure all other applicants are strong academically as well.

I also applied to UPenn and got in; I will be attending UPenn this fall. Best of luck! If you need any other info, don't hesitate to ask!

Hi there!

I have been accepted into the MECN program at UCLA as well. Anyone know more info on the Nursing Fundamentals class that we are supposed to take in August? I have to fulfill one last pre-req and would hate for the 2 classes to interfere with eachother. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!

prior to receiving kathy's email, i was under the impression that a faculty member in the school of nursing will teach the class. but i guess not. i've been calling other facilities for the CNA cert class (torrance is a long commute for me) but they are either full or takes too long (16 wks). i called the SCROC to inquire about the format of the class but the registration person has no idea that they are having a class for UCLA students... hmm. i guess they need to work on interdepartmental communication.

i suppose it'd be fun to meet fellow MECN students before school starts. i heard there are 50 admits to the MECN program...

Hey guys. Was anyone on the waitlist for the MECN program at UCLA?? I was # 9, and am waiting to hear if there is any chance that I get in. It is kind of frustrating bc I am trying to finish up the epi and nurse fundam. classes. Just wanted to see if anyone is in the same boat. Also, what do you guys think of the online epi class? I am taking it at long beach right now, but it's kind of far, and the professor is sooooooo boring...I can't handle it. Anyways, any input is great. Also, Congratulations to those of you that got into UCLA!!!

i thought about taking it at long beach but decided the extra $100 would be worth it for a better prof (hopefully) and online option. it starts end of june. are you planning to take the nursing fund class in torrance too?

good luck!
