About to a Start PCNP program and Overwhelmed

Nursing Students Post Graduate

I posted this in the general students section before I read around and found this board. I'm new and just found this place tonight looking for a little support from those who live this profession and understand.

I've been a nurse for 4 years and at the end of the month I'm taking the leap and headed back to school for my PCNP. I haven't even started school yet and I'm already wondering what the hell I'm getting myself into. I already have reading and homework that has to be done before I start classes. And they suggest that you not work while in the program if at all possible. But that's not possible for me I'm not a kid living off my parents anymore, I have to pay my own bills. And figuring out how I'm going to be able to work full time and go to school is stressing me out.

On top of that I decided that going to grad school would be a good excuse for a fresh start so I picked at school a 10hr drive from my home. So I basically have no established support system here. Basically I started some of my reading tonight and I just had to stop because I started thinking and got overwhelmed. And that's just how I feel overwhelmed. Okay thanks for letting me vent. And by the way everyone I'm Jay.

Hi Jay,

It sounds like you and I are in a pretty similar situation. I am also a 24 yr old ER nurse starting grad school for NP this month. More importantly I am also feeling pretty dang overwhelmed. I am a travel nurse and just started a new position last week in Sitka Alaska far away from everything. I am married, but my husband is a full time student so I also can not afford not to work. I'll be working 48hr/wk and taking my program online at Michigan State University. The online format provides a whole new host of worries.

I guess I've said all that to say this: I don't have the answers, but I'm in it with you- you're not alone. People have done this before and graduated, and have gone on to have real lives after school....somehow. If they made it, we'll make it. If you feel like dropping a venting note contact me via pm

Hang in there buddy!

Meg

Meg, I am a travel nurse looking at Sitka ICu. Can you give me a review of how your assignment went? THanks!
