UPMC Mercy School of Nursing -Class of '15

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Hi AllNurses community! I have been searching for a thread for the UPMC Mercy Hospital Class of 2015, but alas; no such luck. Therefore, I created one!

I was accepted to start in August 2013 and was looking for others who were, or are looking to be accepted. I know it's early still, but I am ready to start school and secure a study group.

Now to my question: I know Mercy has a tuition contract. Does anyone know anything about it? Is it a good deal? I know they are sending information about it, but I am interested in hearing opinions.

Thanks!

Mercy school of nursing class of 2015 is the fb group. Good luck on your CLEP! Let me know how it goes!

Is anyone interested in setting up an area to meet before transition day on Wednesday? It would be nice to know a few people before classes start!

Lindsey, it doesn't look like many people check this page! Lol...see u tomorrow!

I have a question for anyone currently at Mercy SON or recently graduated. Do you know of anyone who participated in the loan forgiveness program and graduated but was STILL unable to find a job that meets the requirements of the program, within the dictated time? It seems like a pretty sure bet that if you participate in the program, do well and graduate, and are not too picky that it will work out. But I'm still a little uneasy about it. Does anyone know from direct experience what the odds are that you could do everything right and have it still not work out?

I think if they offer you a job after you pass your boards, you have to take it or pay back your loans. Not 100% sure on that though.

Hi! I'm at Mercy now, and as it was explained to me, you have 3 months after graduation to accept a job offer with upmc...or you have to pay back the amount they "forgive" at a crazy high interest rate. You don't have to accept the first offer made, but you do have a 3 month time limit. Good luck!

Thanks guys! Has anyone heard of anyone not finding a job within the 3 month time frame? I'm wondering what percentage of people who participate in the loan forgiveness program actually get hired. That might be hard to tell though.
