Question for Philadelphia nurses

My husband is possibly being transferred to Philadelphia in the near future and I was just looking for some information on hospitals out that way. I currently work at a small community hospital in the suburbs of Pittsburgh and I would like to stay in that sort of environment. I don't think I would like to work at a huge metropolitan medical center. I'm also going to do some internet research about the area, but I was hoping for some insider information about hospitals or medical centers and job availability out that way. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Philadelphia is a big, highly populated city. You could work in the suburbs, but they are still pretty busy. Good luck finding a job. I have been looking for a year as a new nurse and had no luck. I know people who have had 10 years experience and still unable to find a job.

You may want to look into Abington, Montgomery, or Main Line. Some of the large university hospitals have satellite facilities in the PA and NJ suburbs, which may be worth considering, and Einstein has an acute care hospital & rehab satellite in Elkins Park. Also, if you're open to working and/or living in NJ, you could check out Virtua, which has several hospitals just outside of Philly.

The job market is tight, but not impossible. I'm a new grad, and I did receive several offers, so I would hope that with experience, you would have more opportunities. Good luck!

Although they currently have a hiring freeze, Delaware County Memorial in Upper Darby is a great place to work. I was there for 5 years. They treat you like family and have great pay and benefits.
