Philly Job Market for (slightly) experienced nurses

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hey there,

My husband and I graduated with our BSN's in Philly last year and moved on out to good ol' West Texas instead of wasting time trying to find jobs in the horrifically over saturated new grad critical care residency programs. Now with some ICU experience under our belts, we are considering moving back to Philly to be closer to his family within the next year. I was just wondering what the job market is like for nurses with 1-2 years of critical care experience? It seems like there are more job postings than there were last year but just was looking for any info from Philly nurses out there :)

Thanks in advance!

Hey, I too moved to west Texas to get some experience and just recently got a job in DE. It is definitely easier getting a position here after a year experience. Where in west Texas are you?

Prospects for nurses with experience are much better than for new grads, probably decent to good, especially for BSNs. Check the on-line announcements of the various hospitals for positions and you will see quite a few RN postings. Most will be "BSN required" and "Minimum 12 months experience" but it looks like you both will qualify.

New grads will need to follow your lead and move out of state (or to rural PA) for the needed experience for the foreseeable future

Best of luck.
