New nurse and confused with CE and renewal

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Hi...I am a newly Registered Nurse in PA, and I have a question. My license seems to expire in one year, I thought it was two? Is this normal. Also, can someone please clear up my confusion with CE credits. Do I need to have 30 credits completed before I renew next year? Should I do these on my own or wait to find a job at a hospital to help me obtain them? Thank you so much!

the following is from the first sticky above. it would seem that we will not need to have ces the first renewal if we meet the conditions below.

best of luck!

faq’s on mandatory continuing education (ce)

for registered nurses

now that the ce regulations are final, what do i need to do about getting my ce?

note: the first group of rns that will need to verify they have completed the 30 hours of board approved ce are those rns with an expiration date of october 31, 2010.

this is my first renewal; will i still need to have the ces?

if you completed a professional nursing education program within 2 years of the application for initial licensure by examination, you will not be required to meet the ce requirement on the first renewal immediately following licensure.

If this is your very first license, it is supposed to expire in a year. After that all licenses will expire in 2 years. I received a letter in that mail that listed each expiration date and the CE requirement. It says on the PA BON site that in order to renew in 2011 you need 30 CEUS. Hope that helps.
