Hello,

Can anyone who currently works for manorcare tell me if your printable shift to shift paper with pt names and their room numbers has been taken away? They said it was a corporate doing and we are given a blank sheet and it only lists room numbers. Every time someone makes a printable form for us nurses they get really mad and delete it. Many of us think it's a accident waiting to happen when trying to write names and the correct room number not to mention the amount of time thats wasted.

I believe that most of the LTCs are getting away from pre printed cheat sheets, because of HIPAA concerns. This is also why any cheat sheets you do have are supposed to go into the shred bin at the end of your shift.

I'm not sure who came up with this rule its either corporate or our DON has a bug up her butt. They tried the Hippa card but written or printed it's still the same info.

Not really. Written means it's the only copy, and goes to the shredder bin when you're done. If it can be printed from the computer, then it's on one of the drives and can be gotten at any time.

I haven't worked the floor in ten years, but I do know that the facility where my patients reside doesn't allow pre-printed patient lists. The reason there is HIPAA and security as well.

I understand what your saying but this rule should apply to everyone across the board in our facility however supervisors have a very similar printed paper with more detailed info that they update on the comp and give to the oncoming supervisor. We were told they aren't allowed to use them either but they continue to do so. We have tons of different patient info in different folders from different departments all stored on comp drives and just as easily accessed as any other type of patient info. We also have a shredder that is locked which is where I put my papers at the end of the shift.
