childrens hospital interview

Hey!

I have an interview on wednesday for a PCT position at childrens and i am SO excited, but wayyy more nervous. I used to work as an NA at passavant in colon rectal so i am pretty excited to get the opportunity to go to the ER at childrens. does anyone else work here? or has anyone interviewed at childrens? what about the scrubs, are they the same green ones the pcts wear at other upmc hospitals?

if someone could give me some input itd be much appreciated

i used to want to be a nurse but the colorectal unit sure didnt make me continue with that goal, im hoping maybe childrens will bring my love back for this field of work!

Yeah same green scrubs. I was a PCT at Pgh Children's years ago, so my answers would probably be dated. I know that I was a PCT at another area hospital on a med-surg unit and got so burned out but Children's was a great experience after that. It can still be busy, but it is a different kind of busy. The techs at Children's also are given more responsibilities and are allowed to do phlebotomy, and maybe IV's in ER (not sure).

Even if you were a PCT they will have to train you. You are not used to working with peds, so they can't expect you to just know what to do. Also, IMO most UPMC hospitals use NA and PCT fairly interchangeably, while Children's only has PCT's and the all do a higher level of skills, including EKG's, lab draws, priming IV fluids, along with the typical tech skills of ADL's, vitals, etc

I don't think PCT's at any of the adult UPMC hospitals do. You should expect a decent orientation so you can get comfortable with kids and get to learn your new skills. Good luck with your interview!
