CCAC nursing schedule

I haven't started nursing classes yet (Aug 18th is the first day!) but the schedule is very similar for everyone in my program(Boyce fast track) for the fall semester. Monday: lecture from 4:00-10:30pm for 2 classes Tuesday: skills lab and lab 4:00-10:30pm Wednesday: clinical 3:00-11:00pm. Your days may differ, lecture is on Monday for everyone and your clinical day will go by the day you have lab. Depending on your schedule at work and how much you do at work, it may be doable. I work 40 hours now, but plan to cut to ~30 a week when classes start, and even so I have a lot of down time that I can study in.I believe you are able to do part time at some campuses, but I don't have any info on that.

I'm in the third semester of the Allegheny campus evening and weekend program, where nearly everyone has at least a part-time or full-time job. Most of us also got our pre-requisites out of the way before starting the core classes (to further minimize my time investment, I took both Psych requirements and two Algebras online, CLEP tests to test out of English Comp, and only took my science courses on campus).

Here is my (approximate) class schedule so far:

First semester (110 + 120)

Monday 5:30 PM -10:30 PM (lecture and lab)

Wednesday 3 PM - 11 PM (clinical)

Thursday 5:30 PM - 9 PM (lecture and lab)

Second semester (130 + 140)

Tuesday 5:30 PM - 9:30 PM (lecture and lab)

Thursday 5:30 PM - 9:30 PM (lecture and lab)

Saturday 7 AM - 3 PM (clinical)

Third semester (210, 220, + 230)

Monday 3:30 PM- 8 PM (two classes)

Wednesday 5:30 PM- 9:30 PM (lecture and lab)

Thursday 3 PM - 11 PM (clinical -- for the first six weeks only)

Friday 3 PM - 11 PM (clinical)

All told, I started my pre-requisites in summer 2012, and started the nursing program in fall 2013. If everything goes as planned, I will graduate in May 2015. So, part-time, starting from scratch, say 3 years solid, if you follow my path. I've been able to work around my schedule and keep 3-5 shifts a week, and had this past summer off from school (some of my classmates took 210 over the summer in a six-week course at a different campus, but I wasn't able to arrange that, so that's my 3:30 class on Mondays). I am looking forward to the discontinuation of Thursday clinical after this week, so that I'll actually have my first full day off since school started in August! I can't speak for fourth semester, but I have heard that for the 5-week preceptorship at the very end, your schedule is very much at the mercy of your assigned nurse, and some people are unable to work around it. I'm thinking that I'll save up some money and probably quit my job just before that, finish out, take my NCLEX and try to land my first nursing job.

Do you get to choose your clinical hours? I'm trying to figure out if I can make nursing school happen but I would need weekend clinicals. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated!
