Attention PA Nursing Students

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Hi Everyone!

I have been a nurse for 18 years and was educated in the state of MD, but now live in S.Central PA. My daughter is exploring different nursing programs and I'd like any info. You'd be willing to share about your program. She definitely wants an RN program. She is undecided about ADN, Diploma, or BSN at this point. We are just looking for a program that would be a good fit for her. She is 17 and will be graduating in 2006, so we're just really starting to look at schools now.She has so far expressed interest in Jefferson at Gesinger, HACC, York College, Lancaster General, Bloomsburg, Reading Hospital, and MT. Aloysius College. Unless, she goes to HACC, she'd like to live on campus. I know many of the hospital schools no longer have dorms, but if you know of a hospital program that has nearby housing, PLMK. Thanks so much in advance. We're just trying to get a feel where to look and what to skip. (for example, she's a B/C student and we're not wealthy so U of Penn is not an option, etc.) :) :) :)

I just accepted into HACC's Rn program. What is the program like? Is it really difficult to do well in the classes or clinical class?

The clinical program is tough... but doable. Good luck!

That has changed. I would go to the open house and get the facts. Lancaster General is now a college. The gen ed courses have been accredited for some time. Many LGH diploma students have gone on to get their BSN without any problems. But I believe, as of this fall, any student entering the program can opt to receive their ADN.

They may be able to get an ADN, but going on for BSN's and MSN's not all 4 yr school will accept their chem and A&P and Micro ect. Most BSN programs give you credit for being an RN, but there is the chance that they will make you retake the gen eds. I went to the open house with my best friend because she was considering going there because it is quicker than HACC's program, so I have my facts straight, but thanks.

hi, i don't know if you still need this information, but i will be starting jefferson's methodist programme in september. it is an ASN-BSN programme and their is housing offered as well as really good financial aide. she would pursue her ASN portion first at the methodist or geisenger (sorry for the spelling) as i saw you were close to that campus and then after finishing the ASN portion she would be able to work and find a hospital who would be willing to pay for the BSN portion or she could delay admission into the BSN portion and work or she could continue straight through. hope this helps you

Last night, we went to TJU-Geisinger. My daughter really liked their presentation and wants to apply. It looks like a very intense program.

Did your daughter choose ASN-BSN at TJU-Geisinger? If so, how did she like it? This is shaping up to be my daughter's choice for Fall '10 start. We are in the Philly area, but they no longer offer ASN-BSN at Jeff in the city.
