ADN or BSN?

Hello everybody. I'm a newbie, and I'm kinda confused to whether take the ADN then do RN-BSN later or go directly to BSN. Which is the more practical way (money and time wise)? I heard a lot of infos/rumors that hospitals preferably hire BSN rather than ADN, nowadays. I'm in my 40's and really in a rush lol.. Suggestions are very much appreciated..

I'd speak with the nursing recruiter at your local hospitals and find out what they're looking for in new grad hires.

The national trend won't necessarily impact you. It doesn't matter if they're hiring only BSN's in Manhattan, unless you live there :-)

@CuriousMe, Thanks for the reply. I forgot to put where my location is -- which is Philadelphia. I heard that one school isn't offering ADN in Philadelphia anymore bec hospitals (in Philly) prefer BSN grads (maybe for inexperienced RNs only). I think it's a good idea to call some nurse recruiters --thank u..

@YSL-444. That is true Jefferson University being one of them, I work at the hospital and since they gained magnet status they are requiring a BSN and phased out the ASN program to Danville. I think University of Penn did the same. So I am now finishing up pre-requisites for the BSN program.

If you're in Philly you want to do the BSN if you can. A lot of the hospitals are hiring only BSN nurses now and there have been stories in the paper on how hard a time CCP students are having finding jobs. It's a tough economy locally so you want to give yourself as many options as you can for places to apply.

Hello HiddencatRN. Thanks so much! Now, I'm really sure that I want to do the BSN. Aside from TJU, what other school do you think is good in BSN that you can suggest?

Hahnemann University Hospital in Philly only hires BSN too.
