Hi everyone! Does anyone know how often Lurie offers student nurse internships? I'm entering my last semester at nursing school and would love to specialize in NICU or pediatrics in general. I noticed that Lurie posted SNA internship positions on April 8 (they were posted April 7) but had already come down when I checked this morning (april 9). I didn't even have time to submit my resume because I was still writing it ( this is the first resume I have ever written and I struggled a little to put it together). I would love to work at Lurie while I am still a student and will definitely keep my eyes posted for a CNA position on their site, but was just curious how often this hospital posts internship positions for students or new grads. Is it just once a year in April, as needed, or biannually? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I spent a lot of time looking into the position and I believe once the applications are taken down they have either filled the positions (not likely) or have received sufficient applicants for the positions! So for the summer I'm pretty sure they are done hiring but I read somewhere that they have another application/hiring period for SNAs in the fall. Hope that helps!!

I'm glad to hear that they will likely post SNA positions again. Of course, that sparks a new question from me though. My graduation date is somewhere between the 20th and 30th of October this year. I know that Lurie also hires new grads for residencies at the beginning of October (the start date is listed as October 5th I think). So, as someone who will graduate at the end of October, should I apply for the new grad residency (i think applications are accepted in August) even though the start date is roughly 2-3 weeks before my graduation or should I apply for the SNA positions that open up in the fall even though I will very likely have my RN licensure about 4-5 weeks after the start date for the SNA?

FYI the internships were due last Thursday :) So they are done! They are already starting the interviews. I was told by my professor in clinical that being a Nursing aide (even if a month before graduation) in a place you want to go is the right thing to do. If you can do a nursing assistant even in another area of the hospital, you are in the hospital and have your foot in the door. If you want to transfer out to the PICU/NICU or pedis unit they already know what kind of employee you are and its easier to transfer than it is to apply to a new hospital (IMO). That same clinical professor questioned the value of being a intern with your nursing degree lol quote on quote "why in the hell would you do that?" but that is one professor opinion :)

Rush has openings in NICU and PICU. I am not sure if they are accepting new grads but it never hurts to apply if that is your area of interest. Rush.edu

jrtaylor4 - I just searched the Rush site, but wasn't able to see anything available for NICU/PICU. Do you know if Rush is opening the application process for new grad residency soon? I will be graduating at the end of October of this year and would love to get a residency there!

I tried to post a link but that doesn't work. For departments just look for Pediatric Intensive Care or Neonatal Intensive Care. As far as the nurse residency program I am not sure. You would just have to look on the website periodically or call the HR department.

wiscobadger, I applied too. What units did you apply to? Have you heard anything back yet?

I applied to the PICU and the Hem/Onc unit! I haven't heard anything, but I did call and they said by the end of the week they will contact interview candidates. I think if you do not get a call, they will email you saying you didn't get the position. What units did you apply to?!
