Never get the job...

Nursing Students Technicians

Published

I have been a CNA for almost a year... And I have been looking for a hospital job, I literally apply for every PCT job at the local hospital. they hire for unit receptionists/pct's.

So far I have interviewed for ER & Maternity. The interviews went well, however the maternity one went really well, and I still don't have the job. Why is it so hard to get it? I have a resume of office jobs, then my CNA jobs, and at least 6-7 letters of recommendation and a page of people who are legit references...

The Maternity job seemed ideal, I could really do well there. The ER job was really fast paced and I could understand them wanting someone with experience.

I'm almost 25. Have worked since I was able to... Been on my own since I was 17. Literally graduated high school on a Friday and worked that Monday full time. It's not like there's been any gaps in employment or anything bad I've done. I have done well for myself. Became a CNA almost a year ago and plan on pursuing my RN next year. But I still would be working.

I don't understand. I have applied to everything. Med surg, ACU, maternity, ER...

Sorry, just frustrated!

Persistence is key. I have my EMT-B, I'm also a Field Training Officer, my CNA, and training in EKG/Phlebotomy. I had no previous hospital experience, and at times I felt discouraged applying, but I didn't give up. I created a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and kept track of every application. I applied to 40, yes, 4-0 jobs in over 12 hospitals over the course of 3-4 months straight and I would call HR to confirm they received my application and to show them I was interested. It paid off. 4 months later, I received ONE callback, nailed the interview, and was hired a day later. Granted, I commute 45 minutes one way, which really isn't too bad, but I get to work as an ER tech and I love my job. Persistence! Good luck to you.

Carbon-12, thank you very much for those encouraging words. I'm glad you got the job. It has taken me over 6 months to get a job, but I hope my persistence pays off. I never thought to keep an excel spreadsheet to keep track of applications, but I'll be sure to do that from now on. I have kept all email communications from hospitals in a folder I have designated. I'll be sure to transfer the data over to the spreadsheet.

I wanted to update everyone. I got the phone call on Monday telling me the job is mine. I want to thank everyone for their support and advice.

*For those that are still on the job hunt. Don't lose hope! You will get the job you want with persistence and patience.
