Does anyone have a Pain Management book that they highly regard? One of the respected Pain Management nurses in my area suggested the following two books that I ordered from Amazon:

Postoperative Pain Management: An Evidence-Based Guide to Practice by George Shorten (Author), Daniel Carr (Author), Dominic Harmon (Author), Margarita M. Puig (Author), John Browne (Author)

Pain Medicine: The Requisites (Requisites in Anesthesia) By Stephen Abram

I also ordered the following book for an overview:

Pain Management (Essential Clinical Skills for Nurses)

by Eileen Mann (Author), Eloise Carr

Anyone have any comments about these books or some other title?

Hi Josh.

I'm a new DEMSN student and I'd like to learn much more about pain management. I came here to ask just the question that you posted and I'm dismayed to find no responses.

Have you since purchased a book or two that you could now recommend?

These two books have been great, although the Abram book seems more relevant to my job [mostly outpatient and procedural]:

Postoperative Pain Management: An Evidence-Based Guide to Practice by George Shorten (Author), Daniel Carr (Author), Dominic Harmon (Author), Margarita M. Puig (Author), John Browne (Author)

Pain Medicine: The Requisites (Requisites in Anesthesia) By Stephen Abram

In addition, Pain: Clinical Manual by McCafferty has been a good read, although it does seem a little dated on some topics.

Right now I am looking for a book that is has more depth on procedures like epidurals, pump refills, RF, and regional blocks, and also one that focuses on the breakdown products of commonly used pain meds for all the UA's I run.
