Transition from ED to PACU

In a PACU nurse's experience:

Do ED nurses make a smooth transition to the field???? I am an ED nurse and looking into PACU position as there is no available ED positions in the area that I am moving. I thought PACU would be interesting.

I work with a few ED nurses in my PACU. They are great. Its a lot of in and out- getting one in, getting them assessed, pain under control, etc and then shipping them out. I think it probably resembles what you do in the ED to a certain extent. I did hear from one RN I work with that she feels like it is a lot slower in the PACU than ED. You should be fine. I moved from ICU several months back and I'm loving it! I hope you find something you enjoy:)

I have worked in the ED for more than 10 years, and just recently went to the PACU. I must say, the PACU is a bit boring for me. I like moving all day, in PACU you are at one station and all of your patients come to you. But if you are burnt out from the ED, the PACU might just be the perfect place!

I loved the ED and the PACU as well I spent 10 yrs in both settings and have no regrets. I learned a lot and continue to learn on a daily basis. I hope u are enjoying your trip!!:)

I recently moved from PACU after being in the ER for 4 years. I Love it!! It's very different. I love the ER but needed a change. The PACU is slower so be ready. I also work with 3 other RN's who moved from ER to PACU.

ER to PACU is a great transition. I Left the ER 12 years ago and have been in PACU since then
