I am having a problem getting information about

recovery time after Arthrodesis. My patient has only one finger affected (from an infection that

had not been treated). She ended up with an arthritic joint and now has to have a fusion

because of the pain.

What is the recovery time in terms of her returning to work.

Thank you for your input.:kiss

Check out this series of pages. Unfortunately it will probably be more her insurance coverage that decides, than the actual NEED for time for therapy etc. Believe me only one finger can take a long time to recover. It certainly will depend on the type of work she does.

Thanks for reply but I am afraid that I did not understand your answer.

Why would the insurance decide her recovery time?

The person having the surgery is a nurse.

If she has no insurance or minimal coverage she will probably have to return to work just to pay the bill. She may not be able to afford the therapy needed.

she has excellent insurance. My question is in reference to

recovery time and pain control.

Thanks

FIngers are a sensitive part of the body and use of the hand is therefore restricted for several weeks following surgery. A return to work is dependent on the physical nature of the job and how much the involved hand has to be used for gripping, pushing and pulling. It woudl go without saying that there should be no open areas or signs of infection.
