OHSU's Accelerated BSN program 2012

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

Hi! I live in Portland, OR and want to apply for OHSU's accelerated bachelor's program for nursing, but there isn't a lot of information out there on it. I've browsed their website, but it doesn't answer all the questions I have. I would love to know exactly what they judge you on in order to get in. I know your GPA and essays are extremely important, but do they care if you have had work history, or your CNA license or not? I don't have any experience, but have a 4.0 so far in my pre-reqs, and a 3.6 in my previous bachelor's degree (in a social work field). Anyway, I want to apply for the program to enter it in the summer of 2012, so I can finish up my pre-req's and what not. I am just wondering what else I need to do, because I really want in. Also, how much does it cost, and being accelerated, is it 5 days a week, 8 hours a day, or what? I have two kids I'm going to need to find childcare for while I'm in school, so I just want to know what I'm in for. anyway, if you can help me answer any of these questions, I would so greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Thanks Aprilshower.emma! Good luck to you, I really hope you get a call!

Hello fellow OHSU ABSN Waitlisters,

I have spoken to the dept of admissions and I am getting the definate run around when inquiring if all the available spots for alternates has already been filled as of May 19th, 2012... Has anyone else spoken to admissions and received a clear, concise answer to my question? I hope other's have or will inquire as well. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing the feedback

hello andee137,

did you receive a call from ohsu absn program last week offering you admissions into the summer or fall cohorts? have a great day

@aprilshower - I did not :( I have had my phone on me at all times just hoping they will call! Does anyone know if they are still calling waitlisters? Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back!

Hello Andee137,

I am in the same boat...a slave to my phone in anticipation that maybe just maybe there might be a call from OHSU. However, dead silence :uhoh3: I feel we are all deserving! I wish OHSU would provide a clear answer either way instead of leaving us alternates/waitlisters in a state of limbo. Still holding onto a shred of hope

A friend of mine had until today at 5pm to tell them if she was accepting her spot off the wait-list (they called her on Thursday and offered it to her). They will most likely have a few people more to call, and then if people haven't finished pre-req's or don't get loans in time, etc, then they will have a few more after that. For the most part though, I'd say it's pretty full.

Hello smallfry2,

Thank you for sharing the valuable information. Are you waitlisted also for Accelerated BSN?

Yes, and frustrated like the rest of you. Hang in there guys... there's always next year, albeit not as fast as we'd like things to happen. I also applied for Linfield's normal BSN (didn't have pre-req's done in time for the ABSN), and waitlisted there as well... just playing the waiting game.

hello smallfry2 and fellow ohsu accelerated bsn waitlisters,

i wanted to share the following email response i received today from ------, ohsu school of nursing office of student affairs. as some of us have predicted...all spaces are full for the oshu absn summer/fall cohorts 2012. this is disappointing yet "we alternates" now have an answer and no longer have to sit in silence wondering:

hi emma,

[color=#454545]we have admitted people off the waitlist and will continue to do so as spaces become available. people on the waitlist can be admitted anytime between now and orientation for the summer or fall terms.

[color=#454545]thank you,

Hello Andee,

Thank you for sharing. I am quite disappointed by the whole process. As well as shocked that certain alternates offered spaces had an overall low GPA and very little work experience compared to others still wait-listed?! I guess its a chance game. I am still hold onto the faint hope that spaces will open for us. Have a great day
