OHSU Class of 2016 (2013 - 3 year BSN program)

U.S.A. Oregon

Hello! Since there are a few of us on the other general thread that wanted to connect, I figured we should make our own. We should also get a Facebook page going! I'll work on that this evening.

My name is Naomi and I'm 34. I have two great kids. My daughter is 10 and my son is 8. We just went up to OHSU because I needed to drop off my financial aid notification letter off and wanted to explore the campus a bit. It was so beautiful, I hadn't seen many of the buildings before, just the SoN building. It gave me butterflies, I can't believe it all worked out and I got in! I also got a Ford Family Scholarship, so I have a full ride. It's like I won the lottery.

Anyway, I'll make the Facebook page tonight and post a link, or list the title to search for. I'd love to meet up for coffee since like another person in the cohort said, there are only 24 of us! It would be so nice the first day to see familiar faces. I do have one friend that got in as well, so I have a little bit of a leg up.

Yay! I'm so happy to finally find someone else who will be going to the traditional ohsu pdx program! :D most of the people in the forum were going for the accelerated one. Anyway, I'm looking forward to that facebook page you initiated on making. We will all be together for 3 years and it would be nice to be familiar with who's who. LOL! And it would be nice if we all shared information on whether someone has the updated list for our books and stuff. I wanna study ahead but the nursing dept hasnt finalized what books they wanna include yet.. Also I am looking for apartments downtown and would be interested in some tips if anyone of you already found a good place to live! so excited!!! :p :)

Ok, Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/OHSU2016TraditionalBSN.

Like I said in the other post, please let me know if you all want it more or less private. I'm happy to add everyone as admins. I haven't ever made a facebook page aside from my own personal one, so I'm kind of clueless.

Also, to any men in the program, the icon photo isn't meant to discriminate. I was looking for a neat vintage photo and all of them were of women!

Should I make a GROUP instead? Or is the page ok? My boyfriend is suggesting a group, but I have no idea!

Well, I tried to make a group to test it out, but I have to actually add members. Looks like that's more for OHSU to make? I dunno. The only weird thing is when I post on it it will say the whole "OHSU School of Nursing - Class of 2016..." instead of my name. Oh well! We'll just roll with it I guess heheh. I have a feeling if I make everyone managers, your names will show but you can still control everything.

Specializes in Pediatrics, Women's Health, Primary Care.

Just wanted to drop in and say Hi! I am a Fall ABSN student at OHSU, and from the sounds of it, we get to take a lot of our courses together :) We also have orientation on the 24th of September. Our cohort is smaller than the Summer (32 compared to 64). Can't wait to see everyone in a few months

I will be applying to the 3 yr BSN program at OHSU this Fall. Can you guys tell me what a typical week is like for you? I already have a Bachelor's degree and will not need to take the non-nursing classes. Is it possible to work and attend classes/clinicals or are most of your classes during the day?

Hi mcsours....

I am starting my second year at OHSU-PDX in the three year BSN program. I also have a prior bachelors, which basically satisfied all my non-nursing requirements and it gives me the summers off. You typically start off pretty slow in the first quarter of your first year, but you will have classes or clinicals 4 days per week. Clinical days are pretty much all day long. The first term you are pretty much in the skills lab for all your clinicals with a couple of exceptions. You are learning assessment skills and practicing on one of your classmates. You also have at least two simulation sessions each quarter, giving you a chance to practice your skills on someone you can't kill :) . After the 1st quarter you are in various facilities ranging from LTC for Chronic illness to various wards at OHSU. All your clinical days require their own prep and much is expected of you. As far as class work goes, the difficulty of the material gets progressively tougher after the first term. There is a lot of work especially in quarters two and three. I was able to work as a CNA about 28-32hrs per week in the first quarter. The next two - I struggled to work 16 some weeks. All of your classes are during the day, and as far as I know - at least until you get to your third year - all of your clinicals are daytime as well (sometimes starting as early as 0600). Good luck in your application!

Thanks, osuchris! That's incredibly helpful!
