What call would you get rid of?

If you worked day shift, and you were on 24 hour call every other week, and another nurse offered to take 4 hours of your call anytime of the day or night, what 4 hours would you give up?

I am thinking most nurses would want to give away 3am-7am call.

I ask because I want to take 4-hour call shifts, 5 days a week.

Though question. I think it will depend on several variables. One such is if you have small children, do I have the greater need to get them ready for bed more or send them off to school more or pick them up and get them to practices. Is it weekday or weekend? If it were weekend, I would not give only 4 hours of 24 on a weekend (you would have to take more to make it worth my while), unless there were something very important I needed to attend which usually falls in the evenings 1500 to 1900 or 1900 to 2300.

You need to speak to the people where you intend to take their call from and see what their needs are. They already know what variables affect their decisions and can give you more accurate advice.

Mikethern, As for me, you're right 3a.m. to 7 a.m. At least one could maybe get 3 hrs. sleep before heading back in!
