OR nurse with a family.

Hello!

I am a pre nursing student hoping to be accepted into an RN program this fall. My goal is to be an OR nurse. I am 35 with a husband and two sons, 5 and 2. I was just wondering how call works and if there are nurses working in the OR that have families? I would imagine it would be hard to not have a set schedule with a family. Yet this is my dream so I guess I'm just wanting to hear from other OR nurses with families that make it work. Thanks so much for any information you all can provide :)

It really was a simple question. I really would like to not be attacked for it. I just wanted to hear from nurses who work in the OR that have children and how the schedule works out for them . It's really not that serious and I'm not cherry picking anything lol I found the comment snarky and totally unnecessary. If someone has nothing beneficial to contribute to the discussion and question asked, what is the point in commenting? But hey that's just my opinion I mean it is a public forum right?

When you post on a forum you have to take the answers you get. You don't get to cherry pick only the answers you want. You original post indicates that you assumed people in the OR didn't have families. I was also taken aback by that. I can tell you that people with kids work in every part if the hospital every type of shift, and in every specialty. I get that you're excited about starting your nursing journey, but you cart is so far ahead of the horse you can't even see the horse anymore. Slow down, get into and through nursing school, and then reassess your OR dreams. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com[/quote']

Yup we have established that the cart has been placed before the horse lol if u scroll upwards. I am entitled to inquire what an OR schedule is like. I may very well not want to be an OR nurse in 2 years. I'm completely aware :) simple question open to those that can shed some light.

You think a response that you didn't like was attacking you? Dear God! You really need to toughen up if you think that was attacking. That was questioning, a huge difference.

As to your OP. There is no way for us to know what the hospital OR schedule is like. If you're really that concerned then talk to an OR nurse who works at the hospital. Start using your critical thinking skills.

Nor was a snarky comment in response.

Snarky and unnecessary in my opinion. You have your own but that was mine :)

Well good luck with that, especially if you see "attacks" around every corner.
