I want to learn to Scrub!

Okay, a little history. I am an on-the-job trained circulating nurse. I started at a very small hospital (just one OR) where they were glad I could take call. So I learned to circulate on the limited types of cases they did.

I moved to a slightly bigger city and a slightly bigger hospital where I was hired on again as a circulator. At the time they said they would like to teach me to scrub.... but budget and management changes have kept that from happening.

I feel really limited not being able to scrub as well as circulate. I mean, I probably could in a pinch - but I havent been properly trained!

I've given up on learning at work and want to take some kind of training course. But where to find such an animal?!? There are probably 4 or 5 places in the region where I could go to school to be a "scrub tech" but not one class I can find to train someone who is already a nurse.

Now, I wouldn't mind going to a "scrub tech" school... I just don't know if that would be the best use of my time.

Can anyone help me out here? Point me in the right direction of where to look? or give me other ideas?

I really want to do this soon!

thanks!

A couple of nurses i work with went to "scrub tech school" and actually got a raise after completing it, because it was considered additional training.

They really should train you to scrub, because you never know when an emergency will come through the door, and limited people would be available. (i'd point this out to them)
