Hello all,
I know this could be considered a loaded question, but I have heard quite often that once you become a nurse it changes you. I am currently due to start an ODP/Tech course (sept 08), but my background up untill now has been in dental nursing (15 yrs), and I don't believe the changes are quite the same. Well I have got to admit, I got the smiling when at times you feel
like screaming:scrm:sussed!!!
Dealing with difficult and nervous pts certainly are obvious similarities, but death and critically ill pts aren't common in the dental practice. I am intrigued to know how and which ways becoming a nurse has changed you.
As for myself I guess I am anxious but looking forward to this transformation as I feel that the character changes will not deduct from who I am, but will enhance me in a constructive and positive way. Would I be right in thinking this?
I would appreciate your comments and experiences very much. And thank you in advance :thankya:
This question is open to all nurses

I learned to let go - mostly of trying to be perfect.
I learned that it is OK if my house gets messed up every now and again.
I learned I cannot control what people think - of me or anything else.
I learned that I can be rigid and uncompromising (with myself and others), but I am working on that.
I learned that I really like a lot more people than I thought I would.
I learned that my family will not starve if I am not there to cook a meal for them every night.
I learned that my family doesn't need me as much as I always thought they did - and you know, that's OK.
I learned I can do more than I thought I ever could.
I learned that life is very transient, and you should make the most of every moment.
Good luck!
Yeah,
I like the sound of that, I am somewhat of a control freak! thats just the kind of life changing experiences that could make a huge difference in ones life. Simple yet effective, very useful many thanks
