AORN Student Membership

Specialties Operating Room

Hi!

I am a third semester nursing student and have decided I want to be an OR nurse. 1 local hospital offers a 9 month fellowship, and hires new grads to be trained to work in the OR. Another local hospital has just decided to start hiring new grads and is currently crafting a fellowship. As part of an assignment for class we have to write a resume, cover letter etc for a position we want upon graduation. I have decided to gear mine to the OR fellowship. I am thinking of getting an AORN student membership. If I do, should I mention it in the resume? I thought between now and graduation I would also try to attend some local chapter meetings. What does anyone else think?

Get the membership and become active within your local chapter. You will learn so much and meet the OR teams you will be working with in the future.

Having those relationships already developed can only help you and knowing the dynamics of the team and the OR issues, etc. is worth the cost of a student membership 10 fold.

Not to mention the information- the AORN Journal, the symposiums, everything.

I joined end of spring semester and found the group more than welcoming and informative. I can't wait for meetings to begin again in the fall!

Oh- and YES, put this on your resume!

Thank you so much for your reply. I plan to do exactly as you said!
