WSSU ABSN 2015 Applicants - Open Thread!

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey fellow future nurses!

I just sent in my application for the 2015 WSSU ABSN program. From what I hear about this program, their selection process really depends on the quality of applicants they get year to year. I have all A's (on the first attempts) in the pre-req's, but only a so-so undergraduate GPA... so we'll see.

I'm going to be going crazy until they mail out decisions - and I hear it isn't till October!

I wanted to create an open thread for all of us applying to share, discuss, vent, or freak out if you need to. :nailbiting:

Who's with me?

Ms simone. I have another possible roomie but we wish to have a third. Please email me. [email protected]

Hello future nurses!!!

I am currently in the WSSU ABSN program for the 2014 cohort (so close to being done!!!). I just wanted to congratulate you all on getting in! Be prepared for the ride of your life and the hardest and most rewarding 13 months you will experience. Here are a few things I can think of to tell you all just so you are a little prepared.

1. The administration at the school (like financial aid, not the nursing dept) can be difficult to deal with and navigate through. Be patient but be firm and on top of your own finances. Don't expect anything to get accomplished in a timely manner.

2. The program is HARD and very tiring! Take some time for yourself/family/whoever. Remember, this too shall pass; don't lose the people you love (or your own sanity!)

3. Study like you want an A, be stoked about a B, C=RN...this may seem hard for the overachievers (like myself) but really, if you learn to accept that a B in nursing school is awesome, you will be so much more relaxed. I'm not saying don't try or to slack off, but the grading scale is so slim for an A it's very difficult to maintain (especially in the higher level classes). Not impossible...but I'd rather spend time with my husband to be than study for 4 hours every night.

4. SAVE MONEY NOW!!!! For christmas/whatever holiday you celebrate GET MONEY!!! You will be amazed how quickly it goes away in this program. It hasn't been uncommon to be asked for money at various times for different things, just be ready if you can be!

5. You will become frustrated and find yourself questioning your decision, don't lose sight of why you want to join this amazing career in the first place. I found right when I began to question things I would have an amazing clinical experience that would remind me of my purpose in doing this program.

6. Copy everything that you turn into an official department!

7. Support one another. One of the best resources I have found is my fellow classmates. Split study guides (if given) then meet up and discuss them. It's not a contest. Learn from one another.

8. If I can answer any questions please let me know! I love to help and I feel like since my class is passing the torch to you all, it's only appropriate.

Good luck to you all and please let me know if you have any questions!

Hey, thank you so much for the effort post! Is there any chance of you posting an email if we have specific questions?

Unrelated, I'm more nervous about financial aid than anything right now. Come on, fin aid office.

Sure my email is [email protected]. Feel free to ask me anything :)

I have been accepted into the online RN to BSN at WSSU

Is there anyone taking the online RN to BSN

This is a thread for the accelerated second degree program punchin....there is no one here enrolled into the online traditional version

Congratulations to you all! How are you enjoying it? I'm an N12! Hard to believe I finished 1year ago today! It's tough but worth it!

Honestly? I think a lot of us feel lost. Between professors getting injured and sick and the schedule changing every day, we don't know what's up. Tell me this gets better please.

Learning a lot, though!

How is the program going? I am interested in finding out more about your experience.
