Hello,

I was wondering how the clinicals are set up and in what time frames?

Here is my situation, I live 3 hours from a clinic site but am willing to travel and stay there during clinicals. It is super hard to get to talk to somebody and get info!! Maybe a red-flag...

My options are limited and was wondering if this could work out?

I'm just starting the California prelicensure program, but I understand your frustration with getting information. You might post in the forum so more students enrolled at WGU will see it and respond. Clinicals will typically be held on the weekends in the first year or so, about every 2 to 3 months, and you might work 4 or 5 12-hour shifts over a three- or five-week period. I know one person in the Indiana program travels as you mentioned and stays with friends or in a hotel for clinicals, so it's totally doable! Let me know if you have more questions and I will PM you. I work as a pre-licensure clinical instructor and your plan could definitely work. I've had student in the Indiana program from Nashville, TN and Pittsburgh,PA.

The thing you need to be aware of is that you work your coach's schedule. So it they work M/T/W - so do you. If they work T/F/Sat- so do you. If they work days or if they work nights- that's your schedule.

So, the 4-5 12 hour shifts for 3-5 weeks, is that consecutive? I know there is a long period of clinical at the end too, right?

My job is flexible as long as I let them know ahead of time. How often are clinicals? I hear every 2-3 months, so does that mean 3-4 shifts every 2-3 months?

I just want to be 100% I know what I am going to be doing before I make the changes to start this program.

Clinicals are usually six, twelve hour shifts in a two or three week timeframe, three or four times per year. The end-of-program capstone is four to six weeks long. You also have a weekend of skills/ simulation BEFORE each and every clinical rotation.

I'll also add that if you call and speak to an enrollment counselor, they are very helpful and will answer all your questions. I had so many questions and my counselor was awesome and very patient.

Anyone else applying for the June cohort?

Hi meanmaryjean, my enrollment counselor informed me there will be two cohorts coming up for Indiana one at the VA and the other at St. Vincent. What do you think are the pros and cons preferring one over the other as a clinical site?
