NYU ABSN Spring 2018!

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi,

I was curious if anyone was applying to NYU ABSN program for the Spring of 2018! I have a Bachelors of Art in Communication with a business emphasis; I am currently taking prerequisites and applying this summer.

hi!! i appreciate you reaching out to newly incoming students. i guess one of my biggest questions is whether the program is truly as intense as i've been reading. i'm hoping that i'll still be able to find time to go to the gym pretty regularly or will i be studying 24/7? also how are the professors in terms of teaching/being helpful in aiding you with your education? i come from a very large undergrade school where the professors never knew any of the students nor did they care if they students did well.

thanks in advance !

Hey! Sorry for the late response! It depends - i think it depends on what kind of a student you are. There were people in my cohort that would not even show up to class, or would leave as soon as lecture was over and still somehow passed/ did fine and graduated nursing school. I was the type/am the type that needs to be in class, and especially the first and second sequences where you have a lot of heavy material like patho, pharm, AE 1/2, HAP etc. I was in the library studying till 9-10 every night. Did I have those days where I was like - i need a mental health day and take a day off - of course. But like 90% of the time I was in class. The good thing is that you only have about 2 /3 lectures a day so if you decide you dont need to review after class, or have any other work to do- you definitely have time to go to they gym etc. Also the lectures are recorded so if you need a break - you can catch up on the class on your own time.

Also I should add it will feel intense the first semester because everything is new and terrifying. Learning to navigate NYU Classes, and doing all the pre-sim assignments for the first time etc. and just getting the hang of nursing school is intense. I felt by the second sequence, while I still had a large workload, it was easier to handle because I was more used to it. I don't know if that makes sense - but the first sequence will most likely be the hardest, and I felt it got easier as the program went on, but think that its just because I became more used to it.

I think the professors were very helpful and friendly. I remember during patho we would all line up and ask Dr. Slater questions and he'd stand there usually 15 min after class always answering any questions you had - same with any of the other teachers. If you email them, they almost always respond. Also you tend to have a good relationship with your clinical instructors since you're usually 6 people. I came from a very small undergrad and I felt no difference in the friendliness of the teachers. A lot of them will even remember you by name - i asked a lot of questions in class so they remember you if you do that!

Hi!

I accepted my offer to attend NYU as well and was looking for the same information. Did you hear anything back? I found an academic calendar on the NYU website but I am not sure if this pertains to the accelerated students. Hope this helps!

I graduated from the accelerated program this past May. Nursing has their own schedule and does not follow the university schedule completely. It can usually be found online if you type in rory meyers nursing calendar

Can you give me some suggestion on how to study for the NCLEX? which practice book did you use? Any important things we need to know to prepare for the exam?

Thanks!

Personally for me UWorld was more effective than Kaplan. Also, most people I spoke too after graduation were using Uworld. I felt that the explanations were more in depth and just remediate a ton from those. Questions. Questions. Questions. I used the Saunders book to also review the topics mor in depth when I felt I needed more information during remediation.

Hey guys! Having a bit of a dilemma. I've been accepted into the program and am currently taking nutrition, lifespan and patho. by a terrible turn of events i missed my patho final and received an F. do you think it will cause my admissions to be retracted even though it technically isn't needed for the school since we take it the first semester.

thank you in advance!!

Hi Everyone,

I know there are a bunch of deadlines to be completed by mid-January. However, I remember reading that there is one particular deadline of December 30th/31st, but I cannot find it in my emails or Student Center. Does anyone recall which deadline it was? Also, where do we go to RSVP for events, such as CPR and orientation?

Thanks for your help!

Happy holidays! :)

I don't recall any deadlines by the 30/31.

How long is the EMR and CPR training?

Hi.

Thanks so much for reaching out to us!

Do you have any tips on which textbooks we definitely need to buy and which can be pdf version for the first semester, which includes Health Assessment and Promotion, Nursing Profession, Adult and Elder I, and Pathophysiology.

I appreciate your help.
