Ok, so here is the deal...A person is in the ICU who has cancer spreading through his body. The person is in ICU is not being seen daily by a Oncologist even though there are 3 on staff at this particular hospital. Granted the hospital is not a "cancer center" but shouldnt the patient still be rounded on by an Oncologist even though they have claimed there is nothing they can do for the patient because he is too weak for any treatment? Also the patient is intubated.

I dont feel it is right to just watch this person die when he wants to fight and his family is there day in and out for support. Thoughts?

In the hospital I worked at before, if they were in ICU, one of the critical care docs took primary care and an oncologist would MAYBE be around a few times to consult.

In the clinic I'm at now, our docs pop in and say hi to patients in the hospital, regardless of where they're admitted or why.

what really sucks is that a bunch of residents round with 1 doctor and they are not trying to give any hope to this patient who is fighting. The family wants to transfer the patient but they are being told that he can not be removed because he is intubated and not stable enough. The doctors are pressing the patients family to give up on him. This is the most awkward situation.
