Want to work as CNA while doing pre-reqs but concerned about the pay...

Hi Everyone!

It's been a while since I've posted on here! :) Ok, so here's my question.......I will be starting pre-reqs at TCC in July, but like many other students, I would like to work as a CNA while doing pre-reqs and during nursing school. Here's my concern though......the pay for CNA's (unless I am mistaken) is pretty low here in Tulsa. My problem is....I have bills here ladies and I don't think I can live on $9-12/hr. here even working full-time. Now I know there are TONS of scholarships you can apply for while in nursing to help with living costs, tuition, etc., but what about while doing pre-reqs? Am I being unrealistic here? Don't get me wrong here, I will not be quiting my job here, even while doing pre-reqs, until and if I can find a solution here, but......any suggestions or tips?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you! :)

There is no way around it, CNA pay is low. If you have responsibilities and the ability to earn more, then go ahead and do it. You won't be doing yourself any favors by changing to a lower paying job. Believe me, the experience is not that extensive or helpful. If you want to work as a CNA, then get a part time job doing fill-in shifts or a home care shift on the weekends, in addition to your job that pays the bills.
