I really have no clue how much new grads are making starting out. I've heard about $18/hr base plus differentials--does that sound about right? How much does the average RN with experience make after a few years?

Marilyn (who should be getting her acceptance/rejection letter in the mail today--I'm so excited!! Wish me luck! I'll post later, I'm pretty confident I'm getting in)

Anyone? :) Ballpark figure for new RN's in OKC area.

I have been looking around and I have seen a lot of places starting outat $29-$34. First call (which is a staffing firm) starts at $42/hr. You just have to look around!

I've heard new grads can make about $40,000-45,000 in Oklahoma. It was on an info sheet from the OUHSC program, but no details other than that.

were these wages for a ASN or BSN pay?

Both. I'm not sure if it's the same everywhere, but at the OU Med Center they don't distinguish pay-wise between ASN or BSN nurses, at least for the first few years.

k thanks

new grads 18.00 is correct + shift diff at most hospitals. The 29 to 34 is with experience. and. the 45 is most likely contract. That what i know it to be.

Thanks! I have a few questions if you don't mind :) My first question is if we sign a contract with a hospital to help pay for school do we get any voice in which dept we would like to work once we graduate? Second, what is the typical starting salary for new grads? Third, what areas are new grads able to start in, any areas we are discouraged from starting in?

Any info you think we should know about as new nursing students?

General info to answer questions are most welcome.

No recruitment, however, is expected.

Thread moves forward.

Hi marilyn,

I have privately sent you some answers to your questions. I hope they help! I would like to add a thought to your question about having a choice on the unit you will work if you have taken a scholarship....As a Nurse Recruiter, I want any RN who I help place in a given unit to feel it is the best fit for him/her. I WANT them to be happy with their choice. In my experience, having a scholarship does not limit your choices of specialty.

Good luck!
