OU LPN to BSN program

U.S.A. Oklahoma

I was wondering if anyone here has done the OU LPN to BSN program. I have applied for this fall but won't know if I'm in until July! Just curious if anyone else has done the program...

Goodluck! I don't know anyone who has done this, but it's the program I plan to do eventually (I just started my LPN program.) Let us know how it goes!

Thanks, I will let you know how it goes. I do recommend that you take the NLN's as soon as you get out of LPN school even if you have a lot of prereq's to work on. The tests were a lot easier than I expected but I definitely would have preferred to have done them right after school instead of years later!

I hope to have all my prereq's done by the time I finish the LPN progam (if everything goes as planned!) I can't believe they make you wait until July! When did you have to apply? Did you do a lot of extra studying for the NLNs? Was it stuff you had done in school? I've heard the tests actually have info that is covered in RN school, not LPN.

I had to do quite a bit of studying just because I have spent the last 14 years in long term care. I really had to focus on peds and maternity. I think that they were a lot easier than I expected but I would definitely rather have taken them right out of LPN school. I sent in my application in April but the deadline isn't until June 1. They tell me it will take about a month after the deadline for notification. I just hate waiting! I feel like I am just "on hold" until I hear one way or the other...I don't have any plans if I don't get in so I'm not quite sure what I will do

Does OU have books they recommend you study from? Or did you just study NCLEX books on those topics?

OU does have a study guide that the nursing department developed but they told me they recommended I just use a NCLEX-RN study guide. I used Nursing made incredibily easy Pediatric nursing, maternity, and NCLEX Review. The Nursing made incredibily easy books are easy to read with just the information needed. Also, once you pay for the NLN, they send you an outline of the areas and the diseases in those areas that may be covered. It's very specific so you don't feel that you have to know every disease.

Thanks so much! Hopefully by this time next year I will be out of school and taking those tests!

I'll keep you in my prayers for the acceptance! Did they give you any indication about how many LPNs apply vs how many get accepted? When I had talked to them before it was when I was considering the regular BSN and realized I didn't have a snowball's chance in hell at getting in! She told me the LPN-BSN isn't as competetive.

No, I am working on my last two prereq's this summer which may hurt me. She said that you can still be working on prereq's but those applications that have already completed them will be considered first. She did say that she didn't think that it would be an issue though.

OH YAH! Keep us updated! I also just started an LPN Program and the OU Bridge Program is one I am considering on going to.

I did have a question about the NLNs since someone brought that up. If my School/Program is NLN accredited, will I have to still take those tests after I finish the program. I ask because the program I am in is going to up for review before I graduate and will become NLN accredited.

It's my understanding that all LPNs have to take the tests regardless of school accreditation.

Where are you going to school Matt?

I am in the LPN Progam at Pioneer Tech in Ponca City. I forgot the the NLN is also referred to as the NCLEX. DOH! I just started about a month ago and really liking it.
