I graduated from O Trip last December. Not with my AAS, just with my AS. I am in nursing school now at another cc in the area. I would love to share with you a couple of good tidbits though...

For A&P I and II, take Dr. Carl Hirtzel. He is an amazing instructor. You will know everything you need to know with him. A&P I and II are tough so be prepared to study non-stop, don't take a bunch of other hard classes the same semesters.:up: If he isn't available, Professor Steve Kash is also good (but not as good, imo)

Microbiology: take Ron Scribner. He rambles a lot about being a liberal but he really knows his stuff and will share his knowledge with you.

Don't take Dr. Cassandra Meek for Chemistry with lab! She is extremely scatterbrained and does a better job of confusing her students than making anything clear! There was only one person in her class that liked the way she taught and that girl was just as unorganized!:down:

Go talk to the nursing school intro counselor ASAP and then afterwards, like once a semester.:up: She will make sure you are in line to be a competitive applicant and she will give you a realistic timeframe to estimate when you will get into ns. When I went, she printed me off a packet that showed what all I had already taken that applied to ns, what all I still needed to take, and which semesters those classes I lacked were offered. It was great, and with the competitive nature of ns, you NEED her help!

:nurse: I really enjoyed going to OCCC, it is a good school with a lot of great professors! Good luck with everything, it is tough to get into ns but once you do, man does it feel great!:D

I'm a student there now. :) I'm hoping to be accepted into the nursing program this Spring.

I had Kash for A&P 2. He was awesome! I had Tirrell for A&P 1 - she was OK. Right now I'm in Micro with Janet Pope. She seems a little scatterbrained about some things, but she's a good teacher.

What are you taking this semester?

I am just getting started in October because I just moved here a week ago. I have to take some remedial classes before I can take microbio and prin of chem. I am taking Overview of nursing, Government, and psychology. I wish they would hurry up and put up the spring schedule! I want to map out what I am going to take next semester. I want to take A & P 1 next semester

I'm in Nursing Process III right now and I can tell you that it is the hardest thing I've ever done but absolutely one of the best! I am loving it!

All I can say is to make sure you talk to someone about where you stand on points-- what you need to do to get as many as possible as quickly as you can. And then, apply. Some semesters I know people got in with 14 or 15 and a good GPA. I got in with 19 and a 3.9 GPA. It is completely do-able! (: Good Luck!
